Lots more guys in IT than women. My experience is that some guys are lousy, some adequate, some excellent. About what you'd figure for any profession. Maybe a slightly higher percentage of smart guys, but that's the nature of the profession, and likely some of my own prejudices.

However, my experience is that women who choose IT and are able to make a career out of it, are all very, very smart. Top-notch engineers, almost without fail. Only exceptions I can think of were in academia, and since everyone there - male and female - were dunces, then I suppose that example should get tossed.

There are plenty of women who join IT for some feminist nonsense, or AA, or because they like the power trip - more than a few like that in IT security. My experience is that they don't last long.

The women in this article? I'll guess that they're the latter.

Why are engineers writing code for FB?

Or the gals are more apt to submit buggy code.

Logic is sexist.

The quality of the product is secondary to the securing of proper sex and ethnic ratios in the work force at every level. The reason for the existence of a corporation is not to make money but to ensure that every facet of life has precisely correct ratios.

Code isn’t sexist.

The only important fact is the answer to the question — was the rejected code faulty?

This isn’t like ideas, or choices for dinner, or idle conversation.

Was Facebook rejected working software just because it was written by women (hard to imagine)?

BTW, I would believe that the libs at Facebook might be allowing the guys to submit buggy software at a much higher rate than they allow the gals. Because liberals tend to think women need a lot of extra help and can’t fend for themselves.

Facebook has the crappyest software — women or non-women programmers.

So lemme get this straight: Facebook hires coders and then arbitrarily shoots down their work because they want it all to cost more? That about it?

C and Ada. I wasn’t great at programming in assembly, but I could read and debug it.

It’s been many years since I worked.

It’s not a right or wrong. There can be different approaches. Oe approach may take up more memory, but run fast.

One may not take up memory, but run slow.

2 people can get to the same end point with different code.

Some people can write spaghetti code that “works” but is hard to understand or to modify.

“Code either complies and runs, or it doesn’t.
It is not subjective.”

Everyone knows that, once per month, Female code turns nasty and attacks without provocation. Any SubRoutine with half a brain knows to just disappear for those few days.....

in the last two decades, there were MORE women than men. And most of my managers were women. I used to love the fact that when I started in IT, it was mostly men. :-) I met my husband in IT. And the fact that there are more women than men in the field now is not necessarily a good thing.

No, it is not a good thing to me. I was on a project recently that happened to be ALL men. It was shocking how easy it was to communicate and get work done. It was a completely different dynamic.
