Trump: 'Everybody' has better healthcare than US

President Trump said Friday that "everybody" has better healthcare than the United States.

“Of course the Australians have better healthcare than we do --everybody does. ObamaCare is dead! But our healthcare will soon be great,” Trump tweeted.

The president raised eyebrows Thursday night when he heaped praise on Australia's universal healthcare system even though that type of system is widely derided by conservatives.

Trump's latest comments appear to contradict his own spokeswoman, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who said earlier Friday that "he was simply being complimentary of the prime minister and I don’t think it was much more than that.”

It’s another example of Trump offering widely different views on how to overhaul the U.S. healthcare system, roiling the debate over the Republican plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

Speaking at an event in New York on Thursday night with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Trump told the Australian leader, “You have better healthcare than we do.”

Australia’s healthcare system consists of both a private market and a government-run option.

Trump's comments came hours after the House narrowly passed the GOP plan aimed at repealing and replacing former President ’s signature healthcare law.

"It's a very good bill right now. The premiums are going to come down very substantially. The deductibles are going to come down. It's going to be fantastic healthcare. Right now ObamaCare is failing; we have a failing healthcare," Trump said Thursday alongside Turnbull.

Critics, such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), have noted the Australian system is the opposite of the GOP plan.

”Thank you, Mr. President,” a laughing Sanders said on MSNBC on Thursday night. “Let us move to a Medicare-for-all system that does what every other major country on Earth does: guarantee healthcare to all people at a fraction of the cost per capita that we spend.”

During the 2016 campaign, Trump said his healthcare plan would ensure coverage for all Americans. But the House GOP bill could result in lost coverage for millions of Americans.

An analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office on a previous version of the House GOP bill in March said it would result in 24 million Americans losing or electing to give up their insurance coverage over the next decade.

I had a friend who in the 80’s & early 90’s had a terminally ill husband. The paperwork, claims, system etc... was almost insurmountable. She made calls, wrote letters, called again and again and through shear perseverance and due diligence figured everything out. So much so that after her husband passed she started working for a large medical practice dealing with billing and the insurance tangle.

She became a very valuable employee, yet remained a low wage earner. Not even the doctors were willing to recognize her worth, because they didn’t have to.

Prior to her employment if patients went late paying bills after insurance company screw up the delinquent patient simply went to collections as a calculated loss.

Absolutely pathetic.

Hey.
..don’t you know praising Canada’s health system is a sophisticated 3D chess move.

It’s either a sophisticated 3D chess move or some quirky chapter from the Art of the Deal.

Honestly, if Trump came on TV tomorrow and said the wall was just completed with a sophisticated invisible metal alloy and the Mexicans were so pressed that they wired the money to pay for it, there would be a lot of Trump supporters who would belive it.

We already have single payer health insurance.....not healthcare. What do you think Medicaid is? Everyone acts like Medicaid doesn’t exist.

Well said. Socialist healthcare is about what American pets get, except they wait longer for it than do our animals.

Pathetic, really.

You, that is. Still clinging to your whiny never Trumpism.

If Trump wanted single payer, that’s what he’d have proposed. You’re also ignoring the bit where Trump said that Canada style wouldn’t work in the US.

Your guy lost. Get over it.

I really don’t get what the problem is.

Many countries have good or great healthcare which my or may not be better than US - “’Everybody’ has better healthcare than US”

So why are fooling around here?

Just pass the dang WHCA and be done with it!

Because the pols don’t want to roll it back.

Courage and leadership would and would have delivered the better, more free-market-based solution that Republicans have voted for over and over.

But none of them made the case or really pushed for the government rollbacks we need.

Healthcare and insurance industry rent seekers basically just bought them off.

It’s fine to support President Trump. I hope he does finally repeal Obamacare, as he promised. And that he sees to it that the wall is built.

But to adore everything he says and does, as though he is a faultless Messiah, is just kinda strange. It’s fine to question what our elected officials say and do, to hold them accountable. To worship without evaluation is absurd.
