Trump: 'Everybody' has better healthcare than US
The Hill ^ | 05/05/2017 | Jordan Fabian

President Trump said Friday that "everybody" has better healthcare than the United States.

“Of course the Australians have better healthcare than we do --everybody does. ObamaCare is dead! But our healthcare will soon be great,” Trump tweeted.

The president raised eyebrows Thursday night when he heaped praise on Australia's universal healthcare system even though that type of system is widely derided by conservatives.

Trump's latest comments appear to contradict his own spokeswoman, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who said earlier Friday that "he was simply being complimentary of the prime minister and I don’t think it was much more than that.”

It’s another example of Trump offering widely different views on how to overhaul the U.S. healthcare system, roiling the debate over the Republican plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

Speaking at an event in New York on Thursday night with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Trump told the Australian leader, “You have better healthcare than we do.”

Australia’s healthcare system consists of both a private market and a government-run option.

Trump's comments came hours after the House narrowly passed the GOP plan aimed at repealing and replacing former President ’s signature healthcare law.

"It's a very good bill right now. The premiums are going to come down very substantially. The deductibles are going to come down. It's going to be fantastic healthcare. Right now ObamaCare is failing; we have a failing healthcare," Trump said Thursday alongside Turnbull.

Critics, such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), have noted the Australian system is the opposite of the GOP plan.

”Thank you, Mr. President,” a laughing Sanders said on MSNBC on Thursday night. “Let us move to a Medicare-for-all system that does what every other major country on Earth does: guarantee healthcare to all people at a fraction of the cost per capita that we spend.”

During the 2016 campaign, Trump said his healthcare plan would ensure coverage for all Americans. But the House GOP bill could result in lost coverage for millions of Americans.

An analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office on a previous version of the House GOP bill in March said it would result in 24 million Americans losing or electing to give up their insurance coverage over the next decade.

No personal attacks?

That’s rich.

You know what they say about people in glass houses not throwing stones? You were the one who started this insult war with the first whine of yours I replied to.

Don’t whine even more that I replied to you with the same amount of contempt.

Goofy, yeah. Pretty terrifying, yeah, that too.

We elected President Trump to repeal Obamacare and then put into place free market solutions. We did not elect him to put into place TrumpCare or RINOcare etc.

To worship without evaluation is absurd.

***

To insult without evaluation is equally absurd.

I’ve said many times on this forum that I don’t like this bill but that it’s probably the best we can get out of Congress at this time.

The alternative is that Obamacare remains and Americans suffer still more, since votes to repeal are simply not present.

And yet the returning invasion of the never-Trumpers, many of whom I recognize as zot victims revived, are treating this as some kind of epic betrayal and are gleeful, GLEEFUL about it. They are desperate to say ‘I told you so’ and are willing to twist everything that is not perfection into some kind of wicked and evil plan on the part of the President.

And that is what’s absurd.

So you’ll forgive me if I throw their insults back in their collective faces, because this isn’t principled or conservatism; this is nothing more than petty and shallow revenge.

When you can get a full repeal through the backstabbers in Congress, let me know.

A huge amount of the problem is the hospitals themselves. They are the absolute worst at billing. I have found out I had three year old debts that they never once attempted to contact me for payment.

Of course, if people didn’t think they needed insurance and government run healthcare to deal with a cold, the system wouldn’t be so hopeless. I have talked to people in the ER because their kid had a runny nose.

Imagine how screwed up auto insurance would be if you expected the insurance company to pay for your oil changes. That is the equivalent of where we are with health insurance.

Lyin’ Ted told the truth and you refused to listen, so now you will pay the price for that. Have fun enjoying your socialized medicine.

Oh please.

This isn’t about principled conservatism; this isn’t about the truth.

If it was Cruz signing this bill, you’d be singing his praises.

This is because you’re still butthurt that your great conservative messiah Saint Ted lost fair and square. Hell, he lost even with the establishment stacking things in his favor.

And you’re STILL throwing a tantrum a year later.

Get some therapy.

“And yet the returning invasion of the never-Trumpers ...”

So, because I want Obamacare repealed, you try to dismiss me as a “never Trumper.” Nice.

No, I simply want my elected officials, including President Trump, to enact free market policies. If you oppose that, that’s up to you. But don’t dismiss me as a “gleeful never Trumper” because I affirm the free market when it comes to health care.

Do you not want to hold *all* your representatives accountable? Do you simply affirm EVERYTHING President Trump says and does? If so, that’s pretty blind of you. Pretty unthinking.

Nope, I'd be blasting him for betraying his campaign promises and shocked that he sold out after a solid record in the Senate.

That's the difference between Trump and Cruz supporters. Trump could have picked Nancy Pelosi as his running mate and they would have heaped praise on the choice and said its proof that she's learned the error of her ways and is ready to Make America Great Again.

Fun fact: Ted Cruz was singing the praising of Trump's SCOTUS pick, Neal Gorsuch, and saying he would an outstanding "originalist" judge and should be confirmed ASAP.

I felt (and still feel) Gorsuch will be another Sandra Day O'Connor, and urged the Senate to reject him. Ted Cruz was dead wrong on that issue.

You can check my FR posting history to confirm this.

Another interesting fact: Ted Cruz was far from my first choice for President. I preferred Scott Walker and waited a long time before endorsing Cruz.

What a work of art. How can a “whine” be a personal attack? Oh I remember. In some people’s eyes anything less than full praise of “the Donald” is considered a personal attack against him. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Flattery is a common diplomatic technique. It’s like saying your buddy’s car is nicer than yours or your neighbor’s yard is nicer than yours, even if it isn’t. Trump’s ‘cake diplomacy’ comment was a nothing burger the MSM in typical fashion has gone hysterical over.

“if people didn’t think they needed insurance and government run healthcare to deal with a cold, the system wouldn’t be so hopeless. I have talked to people in the ER because their kid had a runny nose”

OMG... I cannot imagine the strain on the system if single payer is adopted. ER’s and Urgent care will be absolutely flooded for the slightest reasons. There would have to be a filter but special interests groups would scream bloody discrimination!

BUT, what if... tort law was ushered in to protect the governmental auspices from a flood of malpractice litigation? Alas, I joke...

AND, why can’t we remove the veil by calling single payer what it really is? Socialized medicine.

Very sad story. Has anyone here ever dealt with employees on the state exchanges? They are total morons who can barely communicate and they apparently enter nothing into computers so you keep having to go over and over the same stuff every time you call them. It’s a nightmare.

It’s clear that Trump was talking about the health insurance system in this country which is often referred to as “healthcare.” And he’s right; it stinks.

Every form of socialized medicine features two things:

1) a filter on who gets medical care.
2) cost controls - meaning limits on doctor salaries and medical equipment.

If you are very old, you don't get medical care. Fewer doctors mean longer wait times. Lower salaries mean far fewer people are willing to undertake the long, expensive process to become a doctor. Less equipment means longer wait times for things like an MRI.

Socialized medicine basically means making do with far less healthcare in the interest of reducing cost. It also means far less quality of care. Here, cancer centers compete for business based on reputation.

Some of the biggest issues we have are caused by regulation (the FDA and lack of a nationwide insurance market). Obamacare made that worse by requiring more coverage for things most people are interested in, like sex change operations. The purpose of Obamacare was to make things worse.
