Woman says United crew forced her to urinate in a cup (Fake News Headline?)

In yet another horror story about the state of commercial aviation, a nurse from Kansas City says she was forced to pee into a cup in her seat because she was not allowed to use the plane’s lavatory.

Nicole Harper posted her account early Saturday on Facebook after, she says, she became frustrated at her inability to get anyone at United Airlines to acknowledge her complaint.

“United Airlines refuses to take my call, now I can’t sleep and just keep thinking about how wrong this is,” Harper wrote.

She encouraged her Facebook friends to share her story.

Harper said her experience happened the same day that 69-year-old David Dao was injured while being forced off a United flight that was overbooked. That incident happened April 9.

Harper said flight attendants would not allow her to get out of her seat and use the bathroom until the captain turned off the seat belt sign.

“After explaining that I have an overactive bladder and would either need to use the restroom or pee in a cup, I was handed a cup by flight attendants,” Harper said in her post.

So. I added the (Fake News Headline?) tag because I think the headline is bogus and inflammatory.

What do you think?

I will never understand how someone claims to be embarrassed and humiliated by an event, yet they go nationwide with their story.

Nicole Harper says she was handed a cup by flight attendants.

She's just looking for a payday.

An incident on a crowded plane involving an old (and possibly mentally ill) women pulling down her pants and peeing in a cup, all while at her seat, would probably have some video evidence.

I imagine the folks around her would be none-to-pleased either.

there’s a reason not to get up when the seat belt light is on...whether you need to pee or not.

See her pic in post 2.

She looks to be in her early 30’s. And If she does have an over active bladder condition, she should have worn Depends.

1 - the seatbelt light was on
2 - wear Depends

what happened to me was so mortifying, I just wanted to crawl into a hole and hide, but since there was no hole, I decided the next best thing was to blab about it to anyone who would listen...

You are not supposed to leave your seat during the landing portion. The reason for not leaving your seat is announced. She should plan her pee breaks accordingly. If she was injured by turbulence she would certainly sue. Does anyone remember when, after 9/11, you could not leave your seat for any reason about one-hour away from landing?

I think it is accurate and that United needs to be sued into the stone age. That goes for all airlines that abuse their customers.

Really?

United was just complying with FAA rules and regs.

How would anyone expect to win a lawsuit against an airline who was simply following a very good law?

Sorry to be the one to tell you but there’s a reason some people are banned from flying on their airlines and you just exhibited reason number 2.

I think the airlines are going to have to fight back against this onslaught of bogus claims and childish behavior from some people by creating a no-fly list that has nothing to do with terrorism and everything to do with making flights both safe and comfortable for their passengers and flight crews. People like you will find yourself on that no-fly list so others can fly in peace without all the drama.

At this point it isn’t a matter of “if” it’s a matter of “when” this list is started which all airlines will honor. If someone is on that list they will have to find another way to travel. It’s time to end the entitled mentality/attitude about flying economy.

It may even give rise to a new airline that will allow those on the no-fly list to fly to and from certain destinations at a much higher price and after signing a contract which prohibit bad behavior on the part of the passenger.

We are basically cattle when we fly economy. It’s time we accept that and act accordingly. Just let the crews do their job to get the plane and passengers from point A to point B without drama and everything will be fine.

FAA rules and regs.
I’d be interested to see the regs on forcing customers to pee in cups in front of other passengers. The choice she was given was to pee in her pants or pee in a cup. Both are unacceptable.

Exactly. Ignorance (or feigned ignorance) is no excuse for not being prepared for your known med conditions.

What an attention who-are.

You really should read the article before replying.

You are wrong again.

No one forced her to pee in a cup. Or in her pants. Or at all. None of the article indicated she peed at all.

Read the article nest time.

Nice straw man. The regulation is that passengers are required to comply with lighted signs.

Overactive bladder or not, you are arguing that the airline should be punished for enforcing the rules provided by the government. That is deep into anarchist territory.

Enjoy your walk. Take a club to fend of the sabre tooth tigers and unicorns that will sue united upon your recommendation.
