Former FBI Director James Comey will not appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee next week, despite an invitation to speak behind closed doors about getting fired by President Trump.
Committee Vice Chairman Mark Warner (D-Va.) told MSNBC on Friday afternoon that Comey would not be appearing, but he hoped to have him soon. The invitation had been extended for Tuesday, a week after Trump's shocking announcement that he was firing the director.
The firestorm over Comey’s dismissal has played out with little word from the director himself, save a brief letter to the FBI workforce that said “a president can fire an FBI director for any reason.”
The only glimpse of the former director has been paparazzi shots taken through his back fence in McLean, Va.
But speculation has whirled around if — or when — Comey will offer his version of events publicly.
Myriad media leaks, apparently originating from the FBI and associates of Comey, has contradicted the White House’s version of events. In a New York Times story Thursday night, allies of the former director said Trump had summoned Comey to the White House for dinner and demanded that he vow political loyalty — but was rebuffed.
Trump has said that Comey asked for the meeting and that during dinner, Comey told him he was not the subject of an investigation.
Both claims have been met with incredulity amongst former Justice Department officials.

Now what I want to know is why Comey asked for that meeting with Trump.
Crooked Comey was exposed hiding the MILLIONS
of cyber attacks on President Trump.
Justice (which the EXEMPT in Congress could
care less about) requires that
crooked Comey be subpoenaed, indicted,
and put on trial for his, and his brother’s,
treason and obvious obstruction of justice.
Comey lawyered up.
Comey knows he will get the inevitable question at such a hearing whether he divulged to the President that the President was not the subject of the Russia investigation.He does not want to have to admit the transgression particularly now when he does not know if he can lie his way out of it because Trump has warned him there may be tapes.Checkmate.

After becoming President He proceeded to set Comey up. Played him BIGly ! Dinner. Phone calls!
I suspect that Comey DID ask for funds. That he has been shaking people down — (stating that certain things in the department need funds to get projects moving). McCabe let that out of the bag!
A complete audit of FBI must be done!
Maybe President Trump’s hinting that there might be tapes of their conversations has Comey all shook up.
I suspect that Trump”s warning about possible tapes had something to do with Comey’s refusal.
I wish that Trump had fired Comey upon taking office.
