The US May Attack North Korea In Two Weeks
Market Oracle ^ | 6-3-2017 | John Mauldin

BY GEORGE FRIEDMAN : The US Navy has announced that the USS Nimitz will leave Bremerton, Washington, on June 1 for the Western Pacific. This is the third carrier battle group to be sent to the region—enough to support a broader military mission. It will take about a week to get to its station, after which it will integrate with the fleet.

So here’s the situation: Soon the United States will have its naval force in waters near North Korea.

It already has strategic bombers in Guam, and it already has fighter aircraft in Japan and South Korea.

The United States is preparing for war, which is still several weeks away—if indeed war actually breaks out.

Between now and then, diplomacy will intensify. The international community will demand that North Korea abandon its nuclear program. And after Pyongyang refuses to heed those calls—which is very likely—the US will have to decide whether it will strike.

The US Under Pressure

The US doesn’t want to strike North Korea. History tell us that all wars are complicated. Striking North Korea would require a particularly long and complicated air campaign, not to mention some potential ground operations.

And yet the United States is under pressure to strike.

The pressure comes from the thought that North Korea has deliverable nuclear weapons. Pyongyang may not intend to use them or sell them right now. The ultimate goal is survival, and having nuclear weapons deters attacks.

But no one knows what North Korea will do in a decade or two. And that scares the US.

Evacuating Seoul might very well trigger the North to attack.

Not to sound like a jerk, but that’s not much comfort for those who are dead.

Reality's cold hand will grab everyone when the call goes out for a peremptory evacuation of Northern South Korea.

Even if they can start that in silence (no hysterical Breaking News from outlets like CNN) the traffic flows will alert the NORKS that the end is near.

Fine, as long as it’s to put a swift and permanent end to Kim’s foolishness. Otherwise, it’s nothing but a waste of US lives and money just like we’ve had going on in the ME for decades.

You don’t assembled armada that size without using it. Settle the 60+ year old issue and Trump will have his way over the WHOLE world. Next would be Iran. You don’t let the military go to waste.

My guess...they are looking at neutralizing the bulk of artillery/rocket launchers along the DMZ aimed toward Seoul.

History tell us that all wars are complicated.

Only if you care about the vanquished after the shooting stops.

Bill, One guided munition could eliminate the entire problem.

Then ask the next up "Leader," if he'd prefer peace to being next?

Thanks for the answer to the question I've been wanting to ax. "Why not just evacuate Seoul?", and by extension everything that's within range of their guns?

Hmmm... thinking about hurricanes here in the US...

You don't sound like a jerk. People, civilians of all ages, will die.

Unless, of course, an unexpected solution emerges...

Before we can have a cup of it, such a war will be over.

A 3rd carrier group with bombers & fighters at hand does not mean war. Further, if so, it will not be a quick war. It will be a very bloody war that could spill over into Japan if the NK air (including rocket) and naval forces get lucky.

I think it’s a combination of Trump being a chess player and something going on behind the scenes not made apparent by the media. We are so used to a government and media that shares any and all secrets.

This article is nothing more than a prediction that will go by the wayside as 99.9% of all predictions do.

That is not a sure bet.

Possible but just as likely not to be.

I’d say it’s a perfect 50/50.

Don’t believe it.

Not unless we are attacked first.

I doubt there is a plan to attack in two weeks. As others have pointed out, SK would suffer massive casualties in a NK counter strike with artillery.

We have 6 of 10 aircraft carriers at sea. They've got to be deployed somewhere, so yes, we're pushing a lot of firepower into the neighborhood. Why? Letting NK know there is rhetoric and then there is real capability. Maybe President Trump wants options. Maybe he's thinking about calling NK's bluff. If we were really planning something, I think there'd be other, additional indications.

Nope, no attack. The new South Korean president is an appeaser. He would ask the US to leave before risking war.

Evacuating approximately 25 million people from Seoul (the 4th largest metro area in the world) should be something. It would impossible to so without the north noticing...if it could be done at all.

time for a Fort Donaldson declaration....only acceptable terms are complete and unconditional surrender...I propose to move immediately upon your works.

After 60 years, and major missteps by the Democratic (Truman) admin, this has got to be over.
