I’m not arguing if or not that is possible.....pretty much anything can be “possible” regarding N.Korea. ..and everyone knows this quite well......But lets not loose the point and that is Otto and his parents were well informed of the risks of what was “possible” to happen by his son going into “Pariah” invested waters....whatever false sense of security they and their son believed ..the reality is it did not play out even remotely close to what they thought and believed.

They lost their son in N.Korea...what they brought home is a mind riddled with severe brain damage... and severe contraction of the muscles in his arms and legs.....all four limbs are paralyzed.

Truly a nightmare of overwelming shock and distress for the family and just one week out of learning of his condition........nothing will ever be the same for them....for this we all understand and pray the Lords abiding presence.

I thought I heard from a North Korean expert that the North Koreans treat U.S. prisoners really well, that they don't want anymore tensions with the U.S.

so WTF is going on here?

This prisoner was accused of anti-regime activity, so he could have been treated differently from other hostages. Given the nature of the North Korean cultish adoration of Dear General, a guard may have become enraged and acted on his own.

I feel bad for the ‘kid’, but honestly have to question the common sense of him and his parents. Since he was a college student, I’m assuming that they actually paid for the trip. It isn’t a place I’d send one of my kids.

I really hope the family resists any further TV or interview appearances now. They are in a distraught frame of mind as they only learned a week ago his condition..finding then just this week it was far far worse than imagined.... None of us can touch the level of pain, questions, and shock of all this... which even the father has said they are still in...not to mention what they must face ahead.

It's not hard to sympathize with their plight...but one can do so understanding also the foolishness of the decisions made to enter an extreme hostile country known for severely torturing and killing it's own people.....with a full house propaganda machine of relentless hatred and blame against America and of arresting and detaining Americans for bargaining chips for over 50 years.

Why would any young man playing sports and in good physical condition fall to the ground and die from a heart attack?...who are consistently checked for any health issues and yet they die from heart attacks......
Heart attacks come often times unexpectedly for those in good shape and those not.

More than likely.........he was asked not to go there after his last visit during Obamas terms......and we do know Kim Un loves the guy. So Trump likely dangled that carrot and more.

Interesting that Rodman gave Kim Un a copy of Trumps “Art of the Deal”. If you’ve read the book you do understand how Trump operates.

Frankly we don't know if it was a natural event or brought on by his situation or situations he was placed in. So the best we have now is there was no evidence of abuse.....which is generally the case with those detained and imprisoned by N.Korea when released.

There's a lot we aren't being told by the Dr.s here and the family. .....the idea is to protect the family from any further distress in an already extremely difficult and unimaginable situation.

Anything can happen in N.Korea....why anyone would even consider going there is beyond my understanding......50 years of torturing and killing their own people...and taking Americans hostages for monetary gain, along with a propaganda machine that tells their people to hate Americans.... should be plenty enough to put up blaring red lights......unfortunately people will always run lights and sirens and do their own thing regardless.

Kim Jong-un should not be assassinated - he should be rendered a vegetable and allowed to live as an example.

The father and son both said he went for the "Adventure and Experience"...

Family released this photo of Otto throwing snowballs as the last photo received from their son......(family is understandingly using media to process through their pain and create the picture of how they want their son to be seen and viewed)

"Parents can only do so much. He is an adult and out of parent's care. It is his life and no one else's."

Upbringing has a lot to do with how people think and act when they grow up.

Yes to both questions....and his brain is basically destroyed throughout all areas. Lack of blood to the area is sort of like turning off your car and pulling out the engine....no matter what you do to start the car it won’t go without the engine.

Agree with all except I think the likelihood that his current condition is the result of a ‘natural event’ is extremely low. It would not surprise me in the least to find out that North Korea uses succinylcholine or vecuronium (neuromuscular blockers/paralysis agents) to torture people. You would be awake, but unable to breath, and would die unless they mechanically ventilated you. It would be terrifying, would be extremely hard to prove, would leave no marks of abuse, and could easily lead to the type of brain injury this poor young man suffered. It's horrible to imagine.

my understanding was pulmonary failure, followed by cardiac arrest. Pulmonary failure could be a) he was successful in hanging himself and was rescuscitated from no heartbeat; b) he was intentionally deprived of oxygen until he was no longer breathing, followed by resultant cardiac arrest. After pulmonary failure, the sinoatrial node of the heart (the pacemaker) is capable of keeping the heart going for 10 or 20 minutes, until the buildup of CO2 freezes the muscle. Brain death occurs another 5 or 6 minutes after that.

I’m not familiar with drugs but it has been suggested he could have taken an overdose of the sleeping pills.....could that have caused the same outcome as some have suggested?
