Modern COIN aircraft make the OV-10 pretty obsolete.
They can’t afford them either. The Key West Agreement keeps the Army out of fixed wing attack aircraft. This is one of those things that could be rectified if the USA went to a ‘unified service command’, then that general staff could order the Airforce to continue fielding the A-10.
... until you fight an opponent that can destroy your GPS satellites. Then your PGM’s with their tiny warheads are useless little firecrackers.
No dog in this FRiend. Read an article where they claim $5000.00 mission cost, two operators and greater weapon payload. http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/11/politics/decades-old-planes-used-against-isis/
Pretty cool old school to pull from the toolbox!
My son served two tours as a combat medic in Iraq. He was not behind the wire but up close and dirty. They loved the A-10 and the Apache. If everything went to sh -t on the ground, those two machines were there to help.
Leave it to the Pentagon to trade in what works for new overpriced toys. This is why I don’t buy the crap about the military being underfunded. There’s plenty of waste there still.
Better yet, make an exception that the Army can fly A-10s, and give them to the Army. Watch the USAF suddenly love the old birds.
None that I am aware of. To which of my questions is yours intended to be a response?
OV-10 BRONCO. Wow. They used those as observation aircraft in Viet Nam.
Thanks. Didn’t know they actually had those online.
Mark 13:19 For those days will be a time of tribulation such as has not occurred since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never will.
20 Unless the Lord had shortened those days, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect, whom He chose, He shortened the days.
HA! If I was there I would smack you on the back of yer head. No need. Hildabeast probably gave them all the specs.
Somebody made a few bucks upgrading the plane.
the original plane did not have any hard points for missiles or targeting systems.
The original plane was a point and shoot plane mounted auto-cannon.
Congress decides, an A-10 pilot weighs in, the boots love them, but Nam flashes in my head. Who really should be making the decision and how do we make sure they are not bought by the builders and truly have winning as the goal along with keeping our boots alive.
:) blurry monitor because I just can’t handle the truth. Can’t wait for the day when there will no new war veterans. (former grunt mom)
yup. I just realized that I am 3 views of the 1.5+ million. LOL
Why are they authorized to wear “birdman’s rompers”?
With info from the ground, slip in the night blind.
As to your question, I ask in return: why did the Army decide to outfit ALL soldiers with black berets?
The Taliban in AFGH. don’t seem to have a lot of tanks or big guns that B-1s would go after.
Our troops need CAS and the A-10s can do the job.
Shift them over to the Marines, as it seems the SecAF is too LGBT, etc., to want close combat.
