Canadian courts can force internet search leader Google to remove results worldwide, the country's top court ruled on Wednesday, drawing criticism from civil liberties groups arguing such a move sets a precedent for censorship on the internet.

In its 7-2 decision, Canada's Supreme Court found that a court in the country can grant an injunction preventing conduct anywhere in the world when it is necessary to ensure the injunction's effectiveness.

My guess is they do not have global jurisdiction BUT could block (aka : blackmail) Google from Canada if they do not respond globally.

Dangerous precedent, in my opinion

Google from Canada if they do not respond globally.

That's why God invented proxy servers. They would need Red China style controls including a tiny number of ISPs if they wish to try that one.

Ruling on this is SIMPLE.

Enforcing this is IMPOSSIBLE.

Politicians & judges have NO concept of REALITY.

This is a move that China is DREAMING of.

Remove everything about tiananmen ? Remove everything about Falung Gong ? Everything about their numerous human rights violations ?

Oh wow.. China is giddy at the possibility of this. They’ll work with Canadian courts to see their global vision jump from “One Road, One Rail” to include “One gateway”.

That’s exactly what they will do. And google will knuckle under because revenue is more important than freedom and they probably agree with canadian leftists on which sites are ‘evil’ anyway.
