Dozens of riot police faced a 200-strong gang of youths in a park yesterday, some of whom were carrying axes and knives.
Met Police confirmed that missiles were thrown at local officers and members of its Territorial Support Group, the Met’s riot squad.
Police were called to reports of the armed youths at 7.15pm.
Offices arrested one woman for possession of an axe and four knives were seized during the face off at Thornton Heath Recreation Ground, South London.
Four other men were also arrested for drugs and anti-social behaviour offences.
Videos shared on social media show a mass of officers heading towards the park.
A spokesperson from Met Police said: ‘Local officers and the Territorial Support Group (TSG) attended the scene. Missiles were thrown at officers but there were no reports of officers injured.
