"while maintaining “normal economic exchanges and trade” with the country."

Sooooooooo, you're their largest "trading partner" but you have no leverage.

Perhaps we can demonstrate the concept of leverage w/ trading partners. A mere 2% squeeze on Chinese imports will hurt, hurt and hurt.

Now is time for grand bargain. Fat boy either gets droned or moves to Switzerland with his $$$ and the south takes the north like the reunification of Germany and we agree to pull all US forces out of Korean Peninsula. Otherwise we will use whatever weapons at our disposal to stop fatty.

Yup. The Japanese are pretty good at that kind of thing. The little dictator wouldn't worry that much however, China wouldn't be happy because the nukes could be re-targeted in an instant to strike Chinese cities.

And Japan would have an edge since NK technology isn't quite there yet.

There is a good chance that the Chinese are feeding NK technology so there might be an escalation with a proxy cold war.

HAHAHAH Then The Korean War began when North Korea invaded South Korea. The United Nations, with the United States as the principal force, came to the aid of South Korea. ——>China came to the aid of North Korea,<—— and the Soviet Union gave some assistance.

Most of the “experts” tell us that North Korea’s missile and nuclear technology is primarily intended to enhance defense and regime survival. However it is possible that the North Korean strategic planning is directed toward getting the U.S. out of the peninsula and then successfully invading the South. This is the dream of North Korea for decades, and perhaps their true long-term goal since the time of Kim Il-Sung. One can imagine a rational person saying the nukes would facilitate such a scenario in the absence of an effective deterrent offered by the U.S. A surprise invasion, previously deemed impossible or difficult because of the South’s conventional superiority, might become plausible. And the view that the South would ultimately win any conventional war, widely expressed by experts on the subject, might not be shared (correctly or incorrectly) by the North’s generals who have followed their military-first philosophy their entire lives. Usually one has a more optimistic assessment of one’s own capabilities.

The US should formally announce that in view of China’s declaration, we reserve the right to act as to North Korea without regard to China’s interests and desires. Then we should leak that we are considering as a compensating strategy against North Korea more arms to responsible regional allies, including possible support for the development of nuclear weapons by South Korea, Japan, and Nationalist China.

I would suggest positioning one of our ships which has the proper equipment for shooting down missiles somewhere along the flightpath of one of the NK’s missiles. Every time they launch one of their missiles use them for target practice.

So... you won't mind if we conduct a little Korean BBQ, then?

PURE BS. If we were to attack the Norks, China would step in to help their fellow communist travelers, like they did before.

Sounds to me like there will be a change in leadership in NK in the not-too-distant future. The sooner the better but only if they are not tyrant predisposed.

North Korea is a much more serious threat than Iran but the anti-Russia fervor out there that feeds anti-Trump fervor is all based on how bad Iran is as a player in the world in places like Syria.

If China won’t help, it might be nice to have the support of not just South Korea, but another country that borders NK along with China, namely Russia.

If true, NOR is on its own. War gets the green light.

That is what I also got out of the Chinese statement. Has the countdown clock to war started? If so, I predict it will happen before President Trump's second term starts.
