Trump sets red line for Mueller on Russia probe, warns he'll expose 'conflicts'
FOXNews ^

President Trump’s frustration with the Russia probe boiled over in a fiery new interview where he set a red line for Special Counsel Robert Mueller, warning against digging into his family finances beyond the Russia scope and suggesting he’ll soon start talking about the ex-FBI director’s “conflicts.”

The president has regularly complained about the Russia meddling probe, before and after it was placed in the hands of the special counsel. But his comments to The New York Times indicate he’s preparing to get even more aggressive in challenging the credibility of the investigation.

Significantly, he said Mueller would cross a red line if he started looking at Trump family finances going beyond any Russia connection.

''I think that's a violation. Look, this is about Russia,” Trump said.

The interview leaves unclear under what circumstances, if any, he might order the Justice Department to fire Mueller. But he complained anew that the special counsel was hiring lawyers who donated to his general election rival Hillary Clinton and called him out for having interviewed for the job to replace ex-FBI Director James Comey just before his appointment.

The president said after Mueller was named, he said to himself, “'What the hell is this all about?' Talk about conflicts. But he was interviewing for the job. There were many other conflicts that I haven't said, but I will at some point.''

In the same interview, Trump also issued a remarkable denunciation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, one of his earliest and staunchest supporters, for having recused himself in the Russia case.

"How do you take a job and then recuse yourself?" Trump asked rhetorically. "If he would have recused himself before the job, I would have said, 'Thanks, Jeff, but I’m not going to take you.'"

I love Mr. Trump, his plans, and how he broke The Hildabeast.

That said, by these unnecessary PR gaffes, he is simply keeping the public focused on Russia and other issues where there is no winning outcome for him, only quantifying the degree of loss.

Here is the bottom line. 40% of voters will hate him forever. 40% will love him. But actions such as these just anger and bewilder the 20% in the middle.... those who decide elections..... and they feed the media monster that despises him.

In issues such as this, the way to win is to stop playing the other's game.

According to wikipedia (not a conservative site), Trump received 62,984,825 votes in November 2016. (And these were all votes by actual living humans who are actually citizens of the United States.)

Is it really possible that in those 62,984,825 supporters — many of whom (many, many, many) are ARDENT supporters — he can’t find enough qualified people to staff his administration with LOYAL SUPPORTERS???

WTF???

Trump would be wise to instruct that wimp Sessions to order the Special Counsel eliminated now! Trump would take lots of crap from the communists and MSM but he would be ahead. Do not let this continue.

Sorry, but effective counsel do not make their arguments on the courthouse steps.

Yes, he should ask himself WWOD? And that is exactly what Obama would do, had the situation ever come up.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Sessions recused Sessions not the office the Attorney General. So if Sessions goes, the replacement Attorney General would be under no such constraint.

Surely Trump understands this. And so does Sessions.

I am curious as to the impact such a change would have on Mueller and the conduct of his Witch Hunt.

The shit is getting ready to hit the fan. I believe Sessions will resign, as he should, then Trump will fire Mueller.

That's how the Democrats do it and it works.

I’m not angered at all by what Trump said. In fact, it’s about time someone said it.

If there’s an investigation into one matter, it shouldn’t turn into guilty-until-proved-innocent, gold-digging expedition into how many grey hairs are legal on a person’s chin, as the gubment is so apt to do (and, as we have been told by various intel people, with a degree of pride in their voices, has turned into standard operating practice - whether the person has been charged with a crime or not - and regardless of whether it’s an insurgent in Iraq or a citizen in Mayberry USA). If a person is pulled over for a fix-it ticket, that doesn’t warrant the SPCA showing up to investigate whether a person is a good dogowner.

Expose them already!!! It’s about time!!! Don’t wait ‘till Mueller does anything more.. he’s already up to no good...

Expose ... put the pressure on them... get off the defense and get on the offense...

Being the nice guy never worked in this atmosphere.. You are surrounded by the enemy at ever turn and in every corner.. expose them and gain the upper hand over those nut jobs who are out to destroy you!

DJT is really pissed now that Donny Jr got set up with some Dem-Russia crap.

All The Donald needs to do is appoint another (additional) assistant attorney general who knows that his mission is to fire Mueller’s corrupt-o-crat arse on August 15th when all decent and indecent DC swamp critters are out of town living it up on taxpayer money.

Make this August 11th and 18th which are Fridays. Fire Mueller’s coterie right before a weekend. The 11th looks better. Get ‘er done!

I dearly hope so. As the Berners get their first real jobs and notice those tax lines on their pay stubs, 2/3 will suddenly become a lot less socialist and will be primed to become Trump voters if Sessions wasn’t threatening their weed and other tangential targets.

It seems to me that Trump underestimated the nastiness that exists in Washington.

The snakes are everywhere, and they don't have loyalty to anyone or anything. I think this first year is all about him getting his balance.

Give him some time to figure it out, and he will be fine.
