It has been years since I had heard it and I could not for the life of me remember the girl's name.
I would not call saving 338,000 men from becoming POWs a ‘rout’! The core of the British Army that defeated Rommel were part of those 338,000. On the rescues were hundreds, if not thousands when returned covertly, prior to D-day, to spy on, and sabotage German occupation troops. It was no ‘rout’!
“Younger people dont know what war is...”
True. Much of what my husband tells me of his time in the USMC has been so shocking because so much of it took place during my lifetime and I never heard about it at all.
I remember when they wanted to build a statue of the three firefighters raising the flag at ground zero after 9/11. Some people wanted to make one black, one Hispanic and one white even though they were all white. Caused such a controversy it wasn’t built.
Same criticism was made about Clint Eastwood’s Iwo Jima movie.
I say cast George Clooney as “Shaka Zulu” in the remake.
I suppose they will complain for the very same reasons with the new remake of the Battle of Hastings?
Libs have a knack for rewriting history though...
Lots of African-American ‘Moors’ at the Battle of Hastings. I can see it now.
Thank you so much for posting this. It is beautiful!
I did what I could and raised two wonderful, Conservative college graduates with fully functional bullshit detectors installed. Going to see my two new grandkids this weekend.
I can't help anyone else who has decided to abrogate their parental responsibilities. Or too lazy to be bothered.
And don’t forget to include the East Asian Frankish Mercenaries.
Thank God they went for telling it with troop demographics from the 40s.
I really hate it when the insertion of minority types is stupid for the situation or story being shown. Case in point: TV Show Merlin - Guinevere is played by a black girl and Arthur is white.
Grade 8 English Literature. For some reason I’ve always remembered “There at his side sat Francis Drake,”
My uncle was on the HMCS Restigouche . He was a stores keeper and his battle station was manning a depth charge thrower. He was 18 years old.
As the German army swept through the Netherlands, Belgium, and northern France, the Royal Navy (RN) requested support from the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) in the English Channel. In response, the RCN sent seven destroyers. The HMCS Restigouche, Skeena, Fraser, and St. Laurent arrived in time to provide support for the RN as it evacuated British, French, and Belgian troops from Dunkirk during the period from 28 May to 4 June 1940. The Ottawa, Assiniboine, and Saguenay soon followed.
Once the evacuation of Dunkirk was completed, the RCN destroyers proceeded to evacuate isolated Allied units from French ports along the coast. On 11 June 1940, the Restigouche and St. Laurent rescued wounded soldiers from the French port of St. Valery. On 21 June, the Fraser, commanded by Commander Wallace Creery, evacuated diplomats from St. Jean de Luz near the French-Spanish border. They included the British and South African ambassadors to France and Lieutenant-Colonel Georges Vanier, the Canadian minister to France. (Vanier would later become the Governor General of Canada.)
“USA Today contributor and Social Justice Warrior Brian Truitt blasted the movie this week for not including women and actors of color in the Dunkirk battle story!”
First of all there is no such thing as a”social justice warrior.”. Second Truitt, there were VERY few women and “people of color,” in the general population and on the beaches.
Sheesh.
5.56mm
C'mon.
Don't you remember the fit the left pitched with that picture of the three white fire fighters raising the flag in the 9-11 rubble?
The libs wanted to photo-shop a black and a Mexican fire fighter in place of two of the white guys in the picture..."to show our solidarity."
These leftist clowns don't live on the same planet that we do.
Aparently historical accuracy that depicts whites acting courageously or experiencing adversity is a soon to be forbidden subject in Hollywood because Leftist racists see it as a threat to their power.
They just weren't at Dunkirk!
I’m obliged to buy a ticket. I may not be able to see it because I don’t have the time. I can watch it later on Netflix but I can send a message to all the haters and give other theater goers a little extra room.
I see what you did there! ;-)
LOL
Best argument AGAINST technology yet. If we had 1940 technology, all the whiners would either be plowing the south 40 or changing baby diapers.
