The last Category 3 or higher hurricane to make landfall in the U.S. was back in 2005.

You have to go back to the 1700s to find a major hurricane drought of this length. Of course, much of the U.S. Gulf Coast was not settled in the 1700s (for that matter, none of the Gulf Coast was U.S. territory in the 1700s). It would be easy to miss the landfall of a major hurricane landfall. It is fair to say that the current major hurricane drought is the longest in recorded history.

Okay, so today it is June 1 to November 30. In 1935 it started as June 15th to November 15th. The peak seems to be September.

Stories like this remind me of that hysterical report on the “Today” show about ten years ago when they were trying fabricate a dramatic story about heavy flooding in New Jersey after a major storm. The NBC reporter was paddling around in a canoe on camera, and in the middle of her report a couple of guys walked in front of the camera from left to right. The water was about six inches deep. LMAO.

The funniest part is this:

That’s in contrast to an average season, which “produces 12 named storms, of which six become hurricanes, including three major hurricanes,” the NOAA says.
OK, so three major hurricanes in an average season...
“Forecasters predict a 70 percent likelihood of 11 to 17 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which five to nine could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including two to four major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5; winds of 111 mph or higher),” according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) most recent report.
OK, so "two to four" major hurricanes...which is exactly in line wtih an average season...

Hardly "truly terrible", eh? Idiots...

Really, it's all about headlines that get page views these days.

Gawd. Not even worth debunking anymore.

Do these people realize what a parody of themselves they are yet?

I was around for the ‘72 hurricane season.

I’ve seen horrible.

Like letting a guy talk you into "double or nothing" on any kind of betting.

Sooner or later you're probably going to lose one and break even and that guy just beat you.

Every year these clowns tell us everything is going to get blown away by hurricanes this year.

Doesn't happen but the next year they're right back at it with the same prediction.

One of these years we'll get some storms and then it'll be all "we told you, we told you!".

Between now and October is the busy season, especially around Labor Day. But, on another note, I am already seeing acorn caps all over my patio in North Florida. Any Almanac experts have a read on what it is saying?

I was around for the ‘72 hurricane season.
I remember the 60s and early 70s as a very bad time for hurricanes.
I live in Rochester NY and even we got blasted by Hurricaine Agnes in '72.

Well, since storms have been fewer and less damaging since the global warmests predicted the opposite would happen, it’s only a matter of time before they are right for at least one summer.

They say that almost every year. Interesting to note that the season is almost half over already, although it’s usually August and September when we have the most activity.

ohBull.

They have not gotten this right in more than a decade.

There is hope though since even a stopped clock is correct twice a day.

This isn't the usual liberal elite BS about ‘weather in a hundred years’... it's about water temperatures NOW... so it might be the truth...

Down here in southern FL we've been getting a lot of daily thunderstorm activity for the past month or so. It "feels" like a bit higher than other years, more like it was in 2013-2014. My completely unscientific theory is that lots of daily activity leading into the season acts like sort of a relief valve, and in those years we wind up with fewer hurricanes.

On the other hand, I could be totally clueless... and we'll just to wait and see!

June - Too Soon (first month)
July - Standby (for any news of a storm)
August - You must (prepare in case a storm comes)
September - Remember (to standby)
October - It's all over (last month)

It’s been a relatively cool summer here in Eastern PA. Only a few days with highs in the nineties. I can remember a month of 100’s. But that was over 20 years ago.

We talking 2018? Cause unless they pick up the pace, 2017 looks to be fairly benign.

Hurricane season is generally August-October.

When? I thought hurricane season is now almost over

Katrina and Rita were late August and mid September 2005. So we've got plenty of time yet.

Oh, I think they know they have little credibility with the public. They don’t care. It’s all about face time on camera. These are the same people who predict the future in January then-when a storm actually exists- they get all ‘iffy’ about the ‘inexact’ science of hurricanes! Worry when you have to-ignore it all otherwise.
