Kaiser's hometown was Rochester NY (where I live) and he was quite the character both locally and on the national sports scene.

Been a rough 3-4 days for baseball/celebs ... Kaiser, Don Baylor, Darren Daulton and Glen Campell.

Wow. He's a native Kansan, and I live in Kansas and did not even hear about it.

Ken Kaiser lived on the corner of Arnett Blvd and Genesee St when he was a kid.

Earl Weaver was manager of the Rochester Red Wings (mid 60s) and was just as animated then as he was later with the Orioles.
Was really something to see live and in action.

Back in my running days, I'd shop at "Jim Dalberth Sporting Goods" near the corner of Genesee St. and Brooks Ave.
I always looked over BOTH shoulders when walking from car to store - a hell of a neighborhood.

I've gotten stuff from Jim Dalberth's in the past. The corner of Genesee St and Plymouth Ave has been rebuilt as part of the Brooks Landing project and Jim Dalberth's moved into a newly built building across the street and are still in business. That area and across Plymouth where the Staybridge Hotel and the new UR dorm is nice, but you venture a few blocks north up Genesee St and it gets rough. Here's a link to google street view of that area:

In “The Umpire Strikes Back” Major League Umpire Ron Luciano recounts many encounter with Weaver. He once tossed Earl in the first game of a double header. While exchanging line ups at home for the second game, Earl said that he hoped the umpiring in the second game would be better than the first, Luciano gave him the heave ho before the game began. He claimed to have thrown Earl Weaver out of more ball games than any other major league umpire.
