My optimistic guess is that Wray has details on obstruction during the Clinton investigation and is parking this guy out of harms way (pending charges would be a bonus).
Would be very interesting to now whether Acting Director McCabe assigned Ptrzok to Mueller’s team or if Mueller picked him. Either option has ugly implications.

I don’t think a Deputy Director of the FBI has ever remained with the agency when a new Director took over. Never until now, where McCabe is suspiciously staying on.
I believe the Deputy Director has final say on personnel matters except for associate directors and a few other top jobs.
