Bannon: 'The Trump Presidency That We Fought For, and Won, Is Over.'
Weekly Standard ^

Posted on 08/18/2017 3:50:04 PM PDT by springwater13

“The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over,” Bannon said Friday, shortly after confirming his departure. “We still have a huge movement, and we will make something of this Trump presidency. But that presidency is over. It’ll be something else. And there’ll be all kinds of fights, and there’ll be good days and bad days, but that presidency is over.”

Bannon says that he once confidently believed in the prospect of success for that version of the Trump presidency he now says is over. Asked what the turning point was, he says, “It’s the Republican establishment. The Republican establishment has no interest in Trump’s success on this. They’re not populists, they’re not nationalists, they had no interest in his program. Zero. It was a half-hearted attempt at Obamacare reform, it was no interest really on the infrastructure, they’ll do a very standard Republican version of taxes.

“What Trump ran on – border wall, where is the funding for the border wall, one of his central tenets, where have they been? Have they rallied around the Perdue-Cotton immigration bill [legislation proposed by Republican Senators David Perdue and Tom Cotton that would revamp the system of legal immigration, favoring immigrants with education, skills and English proficiency. On what element of Trump’s program, besides tax cuts – which is going to be the standard marginal tax cut – where have they rallied to Trump’s cause? They haven’t.”

This just in at around 7:30 this evening...

“I’m leaving the WH & going to #war for Trump against his opponents on Capitol Hill, in the media and in corporate America.” - Steve Bannon

Methinks this allows President Trump a chance to speak more unfiltered truth through Steve Bannon without having the inevitable blow-back from the fifth column. Just because he no longer has an official position at the White House doesn’t mean that he can’t act on behalf of the Administration.

Bannon never had anything to do with Trump becoming what he is today. This is a terrible time for him but with God’s help he will overcome. I sent a few $$ to his website today. Pray for him and stand firmly with him.

Hey, Troll-boi.

He wants to raise taxes on the ultra wealthy. Which to me, means Hollywood and Silicon Valley.

He wants a Trade War with China in time while we still have a chance to win it, before being replaced as the world's reserve currency.

Your calling them "BS Wars" -- like keeping Nukes out of the hands of North Korea -- reveals that you must have eaten paint chips as a child.

The country is not lost and I agree with Bannon.

The president is alone, the republicans are such cowards, they’re scared of the media. They’d rather just treat him like a storm they can ride out. They don’t believe they should honor the will of the people.

We will show them next year.

Trump needs to work with Mercer to set up the framework of a 3rd party. The sooner the GOPe realizes that they can’t wait out Trumpism the better.

From what I understand Strange has been loyal to Trump, backing his agenda and having his back from the start of his Presidency. Trump doesn’t turn on people like that and thus is rewarding Strange’s loyalty. That other good guy Judge running against Strange in Alabama will just have to wait his turn.

Bannon’s sentiments as expressed here—specifically with regard to the GOPe Congress—are spot on.
It might not be what anyone wants to hear—but it rings 100% true to me.

It’s not the President’s fault. It’s the scum-sucking party of abject cowards that he leads.

I truly despise the Republican party leadership. A bigger bunch of disloyal cowards and selfish career politicians I’ve never seen.

Trump’s biggest mistake so far, IMO, was assuming he would have the support of his own party.

President Trump stands virtually alone—

Yeah, I’d say he is 100% alone. Tim Scott was ripping him on TV yesterday. Cruz and Lee are hiding under their desks, etc. We’ve been completely abandoned by the GOP. In the face of the ugliest smears imaginable directed at us. These “Republicans” are not worth a bucket of spit.

Touche old timer. Bannon has been pushing for economic nationalism where our Americans are actually free to start business and careers of their choosing instead of waiting on a shrinking welfare check from our public masters.

Trump needs to start a new party in time for the 2018 election.

No. He needs to go to places like WV and MO. Remove a bunch of incumbent Dem Senators in 2018. Then return to the beltway and rub those victories in the faces of the GOPe. And run for 2020 against the entire fetid political class.

Maybe we in the rank-n-file need to take to the streets?

Who here really disagrees with that? The entire current crop, with about 15 exceptions in BOTH houses, needs to be swept out.

15? Name them. Scott is ripping Trump. Cruz and Lee are hiding under their desks now while card carrying communists rampage through our history. What patriots.

I honestly can’t name one elected Republican off the top of my head other than POTUS that I can 100% support.

The fake news thing can get annoying because ANYTHING negative about Trump is called fake news, and not all of it is (like this). People don’t even read the article and yell “Fake news!” For example, Axios has good sources and is often right, but people say they are liberal and therefore must be fake news.

Feckless, useless Republicans across the spectrum in The House and The Senate. What Trump is trying to do, it upsets the apple cart. And The Powers That Be, they fight back. No one said it was gonna be easy.

He gave them an opportunity to come on board in the first six months. They chose to decline. Now he can do what a new CEO does after the transition period.

M & A ain’t pretty, but ...

time is not on the side of non-RINOs to wait for their turn. Reward a McConnell & Rove-funded candidate for loyalty?

Let’s see if that loyalty survives as long as Corker’s.

Yep. POTUS extended a hand, brought Priebus in, etc. And in return the GOPe spit in our faces. The scale of GOPe betrayal is historic. We’ve never seen anything like this in American history that I am aware of. We live in historic times.

Trump has to pick his battles. Strange is not worth the fight, IMO. Flake, OTOH, is. And POTUS will get tremendous heat for it.
