Easy money compared to growing up on a farm. I shoveled manure out of barns many times by the trailer load, hauled hay and stacked it in barns that were well over a 100 degrees in July and August, etc. I couldn’t afford a home either but shared rentals were available and they are in KC too. This is a pathetic bs story.

Notice how the article pictures her with a cute little 8 year old “ niece” , not her beloved 14 and-15 year old son and daughter

Wonder what her kids look like and why she didn't use them for the family picture :-)

If you work in a fast food joint, show up for work, on time four days in a row they make you an assistant manager. What’s wrong with this story? As Paul Harvey would say “and now for the rest of the story”....

If daddy was working $9.50 an hour that would be $18 an hour to support the family

Illegitimacy has destroyed many people economically and spiritually

taxes, social security ... the government gets both the employee’s share and the employer’s share of FICA, Medicare.

Does the government provide value for the share they are getting?

The employee provides labor for the wages. The utility companies provide gas, water, electric. The landlord provides a building. The wholesalers provide the raw food.

Is the government running a con? Is the government ripping off that Popeyes worker?

Cut taxes on the working poor. At the same time cut welfare.

... The story doesn't say...

Exactly the point. The story isn't about facts at all - it just pretends to be. It's just emotional manipulation, and I believe it's simply made up completely.

Did you look at her photos? #1: she looks like a man. #2 not the facial expression you want to see when you pull up at the window to order coffee in the morning!

I agree with you. This is a sob story gone awry.

That’s what I was thinking: after 22 years, why wasn’t she a manager?

Marion (left) has worked in fast food for 22 years: ‘At the top of America, when it comes to Trump and them, their goal is to keep us down.’

22 years a moron making minimum wage with 2 kids and it's TRUMP'S fault? Why didn't she "stand up" to Obozo?

Where is her husband?

Some choices: prison, dead, or out knocking up dumb millenial black girls to procreate even more impoverished units.

No, she’s enslaved to ignorance, welfarism and immorality.
Only she herself can end it for her children.
But she won’t.

There are reasons she’s making minimum after 22 years, but those reasons don’t serve the narrative so they aren’t in the article.
If you’re clean, dependable, and averse to stealing from the company, you get beyond minimum in six months.
Then there’s the government benefits available to women with children.
There’s no way this woman can’t make ends meet, with the facts as stated. The facts unstated are inconvenient.

Yep...there's an "inquality," all right. But NOT the kind the Guardian wants to talk about...

And there are lifelong, employment consequences to this inequality:

You’re right, propaganda.

For one thing, the story says they are at half their normal staff. Left unsaid... what is the usual staff number? Two, five?

If Fran is ‘doing all the jobs herself’ - IMO she deserves a raise, as she’s basically running the company.

However, the store is making under $1000, and if there are typically 4 to 8 employees per shift, I can’t see where the company is making enough to survive for long, what with each employee taking home nearly $80/day. So Fran might be out of a job if she gets a raise.

At least she gets to eat regularly. Spicy or mild.

It doesn’t sound like the owner of the franchise is making much money. Subtract out franchise fees, rent or property costs, raw material, utilities, security, equipment, etc.

If he can only afford one employee per shift, he’s probably looking for an exit strategy.

bring in about $3,400.00 monthly. Is that not enough to live on in Kansas?
**************
I don’t know about KC but in western Illinois $40k will buy a decent house.. 40k for 15 years is under $300/month... Then you add in all the welfare benefits she collects but aren’t named in this story ,,, she can do it .. she’s just too stupid.

Popeye’s needs to stop letting Wimpy run tabs til next Tuesday.

Actually, KC used to have an awesome burger joint called "Wimpys," the best burgers, tenderloins, Italian Steaks, & tots. They were closed on Tuesdays. I miss the place.
