That's how it felt to me, too. I know nothing about boxing. But the big buildup, the in your face between the two of them, Mayweather's obvious passiveness for most of it, neither looking beat up, the glibness of them both at the end ... none of it felt genuine and authentic.

Yep. SO obvious. Yet I still got flamed a bit for the comment. (Guess they paid?...sheesh)

How did so many people in this thread miss the YEARS of people saying “mayweather just runs away in the ring”

I can see how they may have missed Diaz-MacGregor I, where CONOR GASSED. That would be MMA vs MMA.

I can see where they never saw the CONOR QUOTE about gassing vs Diaz...”THE FIRST 8 MINUTES WERE EASY”

And especially with all the chatter before he fought “pac man”....”mayweather is just going to run like every fight”

What did you think he was going to do? Aint nobody ever seen Rocky III???

Yes.

Also, I loved how the fight ended without a knock down or a ten count. I’m no boxing expert but I think all he needed to do was drop to one knee and he would have been given a ten count.

Any experts out there?

A TKO by definition means the fighter was not counted out. A KO would be certified with a ten count.

A TKO as here occurs when the fighter is no longer able to defend himself. Short of backpedaling into the ropes, Conor had not thrown a punch in a minute or so.

He also could not raise his hands and protect himself. The ref made the right decision to do so.

Thanks for the clarification on TKO vs KO.

However, I seem to remember seeing a boxer or two take a knee after a big punch and they were given a ten count to continue. Scored as a 10-8 round? In any case, could Conor have taken a knee after one of the big shots and received a ten count or was that just an option for Floyd?

To be honest, I stopped watching boxing after I realized boxing experts lose in the Octagon. They lose so fast that it will make your head spin.

On a knockdown as a Ref may rule when a knee touches down that it’s a knockdown and issue a standing eight count.

If you are knocked down the Ref counts to ten he will declare the bout over.

Conor didn’t touch a knee down. He was twisted along the ropes and couldn’t defend himself or keep his hands up.

So the Ref seeing him helpless called the match and that’s a TKO.

Boxers can’t match up in the Octagon. Lots of martial artists in that sphere and they can’t compete along those lines since most matches are not won on boxing skills alone.

Boxers can’t match up with MMA in the ring either. Conor was very impressive up until he ran out of gas. I love Floyd but he would not last one round in an Octagon. I’ll bet you my favorite guitar on the rematch.

No need to put your favorite guitar on a rematch. There’s not going to be any rematch.

Floyd is walking away from this last dance with a ballpark of $300 million.
That’s $300 million.

He was not very impressive in the early part of the bout and he was getting tagged by a guy in his first professional bout. Father time catches up to all and at 40, he knows time to take the money and go.

Conor would love a rematch. But he won’t get one. Biggest payday of his career. He nets about $100 million and started his own management company. He’ll pull in a lot of coin for not much doing ads and similar for the next six months.

He’ll be pinning over how he could have been in better 12 rounds of boxing shape for many a year. But it’s not his fault. That was a risk going in and it’s hard to simulate what a real championship bout will take when you have zero boxing experience.

Thank God, I love that guitar.

Not to question your ability to see the future but you may have been one of those know-it-all types who said the fight was never going to happen in the first place.

Or Conor will not land a punch, Floyd will KO him in the first round, Conor’s face will be ground beef, Conor will throw in the towel.

In any case, just spent an hour or so debating the details of the fight with my uncle who did not watch the fight.

Hmmm... Did you watch the fight?

I saw the fight. Then I saw parts of it again. I don’t fit any of the criteria you set.

Was rooting for Conor and thought he won the first three rounds. But he didn’t have the boxing stamina and experience to protect himself in the later rounds.

If he had, it may have been a great fight. I think he created all kinds of problems for Mayweather.

Then you saw when Floyd turned his back and basically said to Conor kick me in the face or choke me unconscious if you want.

Floyd looked like a shadow of himself. Conor seriously confused him with his awkward old world style.

If Conor had not grown tired, he could have won. He was controlling the fight early. Floyd waited him out and that was enough to call it a day.

Conor walks away a hero in defeat. Floyd walks away with his love of money.
They both made a boatload.

Win-win for sure. I came away respecting them both men more. Boxing, not so much.

However, I thought Floyd looked as good as ever. He was never hurt and relentless when Conor gassed out. I would love to see Floyd in the Octagon. Who knows, he could be a natural.

IMHO, Floyd’s vaunted defense was poor early in the fight. He was getting popped with jabs all over the place. Conor deployed a disruptive attack. While it wasn’t as effective as hoped, it threw Floyd off for a while.

Boxing is a mess. Conor elevated himself and made a bundle. Floyd walks away with one three times larger.
