Trump's latest moves, after some consideration, has provided the rope to those who oppose MAGA, to hang themselves if they so choose.

The GOP Congress already had the rope handed to them. The base is infuriated with them. Working with Schumer/Pelosi is going to help MAGA, how?

I would NEVER work with cretins like Schumer and Pelosi.

Agreed.

However, in this instance there is ample room to argue Trump intentionally USED Schumer and Pelosi to send a very important message. On balance, one can conclude he got the best of the deal.

At the same time, the message underscores for the rest of us just how impotent the current R leadership is. The party is a) not responsive to its voters (it appears we can be had for the price of a campaign promise);
and b) the leadership is otherwise in dire need of a political testosterone booster. And now, everyone paying attention knows that.

Republicans...all of you, get rid of Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell or you will all die politically with these Trump haters!!!

You know Pubbies, November 8, 2016 was the day Trump was elected POTUS. You all were back in Washington on January 3, 2017. You had from November 8th through January 3rd, through the end of August, 2017 (TEN MONTHS), to prepare your legislation for congressional approval, not to mention the seven years you promised us all that you would end Obamacare, if we gave you majorities in the House and Senate and the POTUS, which we did!!! During that time led by Trump hater, total incompetents, Paul Ryan & Mitch McConnell you failed to pass Obamacare Repeal & Replacement, Tax Reform and, Infer-Structure Renewal.

In ten months I could have rearranged the entire world. Gentlemen & Ladies Congress Critters...you have screwed yourselves with recess vacations an other cutie ganders...which the American people and voters will not forget. If I were you I would get rid of Ryan and McConnell tomorrow and get to work.

If you work an honest days work for the people every day through the month of September....you should, with great ease and due haste, pass all three of the above items with your eyes closed. If not, you better forget about holidays and recesses and put your noses to the grindstone of legislation success...no Thanksgiving, no weekends, no Christmas for you total deadbeats!!! Note: The primary season is coming!!!

What upper hand. The Dems are not going to sign on to any tax cuts or funding for the wall or Border Patrol unless there were equally leftist legislation along with said legislation.

So Trump has two choices then...He can stick with the Rinos and gain nothing in his 4 year term...Get nothing that he campaigned on...Or, he can work with the people who will work with him even if he has to make a deal...

And is that Trump's fault??? Of course not...The Rinos have forced him into it...We may lose some ground but I believe we'll be better of in the long run...

Trump went to Washington to make some changes...He's going to make them one way or another...

No, but I don’t think this is really about Obamacare. The point is pretty simple: Trump wants wins.

And if DACA gets him banner headlines in the NY Times, he’ll take it. If Obamacare gets him banner headlines on Breitbart, he’ll take it.

He wants banner headlines somewhere from somebody.

You are obviously not as extreme as Trump, myself, or many others on this thread.

You really need a more “moderate and temperate” namesake.

I think everyone is vastly over-rating Trump’s interest in getting involved in 50 or so primary fights. I doubt President Trump can name 50 Republican representatives let alone really put together an enemies list and a challengers list.

If he thinks he can get some kind of tax bill and then an infrastructure bill with Schumer, he’ll do that, get the “Trump’s matured” stories in Time, and be happier than you can imagine.

I honestly think that the only true legislative priority Trump has is The Wall. He needs something that looks like a wall built within the next 18 months. How he gets that is really the tough part.

It seems to me that the people taking the biggest hit right now are the Freedom Caucus. Trump has more or less rendered them irrelevant if he’s going to make deals with Dems.

I disagree...They weren't going to win anything on this deal anyway or the next one...I'm sure they know that...

What are those scumbags getting out of it?

In the past, the media would just fix any inconvenient truth that shone negatively on the dems/left.

Now, the dems/left are crowing about their win. When they crap on the opportunity to deliver on their part, there will be no shelter - their own words, delivered by the same media, will provide excellent sound bites for campaign ads.

If Trump opens the door to working with Dims...

That door was opened by the R leadership years ago. It gave O everything he asked for and it has been slow-playing in the halls of Congress on everything else. Most egregiously, it has demonstrated it is concerned more with its interests than those of its constituency. It appears they serve at someone's pleasure and it is not ours.

He can stick with the Rinos and gain nothing in his 4 year term

Again, Trump doesn't have to work with the RINOs. On ANYTHING.

He can present his agenda to Congress, which he has done multiple times.

The inaction from Republicans have caused the base to boil over in frustration and anger. You had primary challengers lining up. You have RINOs declining to run for re-election. The writing was already on the wall. In 2018, there would have been another Tea Party wave like in 2010.

...Get nothing that he campaigned on...Or, he can work with the people who will work with him even if he has to make a deal...

You don't work with the very people who have a vested interest in your destruction. I'm sorry - although I understand the point about how Ryan/McConnell are undermining Trump - there is absolutely no way in Hell I would even shake Schumer or Pelosi's hand.

Listen to some recent clips of Schumer or Pelosi when you have time. Listen to the language. THEY ARE ALREADY ACTING THAT THEY HAVE THE MAJORITY AND ARE SETTING THE AGENDA. Trump may now be compromised because he wants to get things done. The Left is going to demand more concessions now because of this. I guarantee you in December, DACA will be the law, PP will be fully funded, and Trump's wall or tax cuts will be non-existent. You heard it here first.

What has to be settled is "no amnesty", i.e., no path to citizenship. You want that....you leave, wait in line and then come in legally.

Someone should explain to them that Obama "tricked" them and now they're KNOWN illegal aliens....scr** up and out you go...we'll call in the midnight judge...forget an attorney, forget a "right" to a trial...You're an illegal...you are not entitled.

The only campaign ad that came out of this week was Trump praising Heitkamp to heaven and back in North Dakota. She’s going to run that 50 times and everyone is going to think she’s the most conservative Republican in the Senate before it’s all over.

I think DACA becoming law of the land is a done deal. If you want to fight the last war, knock yourself out.

What are you talking about. I was one of the first FReepers to fully support Trump and I’m still a rock-solid supporter. But that doesn’t mean I’m not going to call him out on some stuff I disagree with.

There is a reason Trump is President, and none of the following are President:

Sitting Senators Cruz, Rubio, Paul
Former Senator Santorum
Sitting Governors Walker, Kasich, Christie
Former Governors Perry, Huckabee, Jindal

The Republicans have run on a popular platform, and managed to take control of the House of Representatives in 2010, the Senate in 2014, the White House in 2016. However, the established Republicans have accomplished very little in enacting the reforms promised during their campaigns.

These elected Republicans seem to be ignoring their campaign promises, and are instead working against the interests of their voters.

In 2016 the voters rejected the established Republicans as presidential candidates, and coalesced around an outsider candidate who has a reputation for getting things done.

Since the congressional Republicans are not willing to work on the same side as our President, I do not have a problem with the President working around the roadblocks put up by the congressional Republicans.

their own words, delivered by the same media, will provide excellent sound bites for campaign ads.

You mean like how the media brought up Hillary's opposition of DACA during the campaign, instead of not suddenly leaking it now?

Yeah, I remember when they did that! Not.

“You love Trump working with Democrats?”

I don’t like it but I can understand since he can at least trust the Democrats to be the opposition party.

This is in contrast to the Republicans who keep proving that Trump can’t trust them NOT to be the opposition party!
