Hope the injuries aren’t serious.

PS. Amphib assault vehicles aren’t tanks.

Serving in the military can be dangerous.

First of all, prayers for the speedy.recovery of the injured.

Is this a one-off accident or another example of our corroding military maintenance/training infrastructure?

Who is running our military? We lose service men every week to someone’s boondoggle. The Osprey has taken more American military lives than the Taliban!! ( TRUE!!) . The Navy cant sail a ship without crashing into something!! This is getting farcical.

15? Must have been one of those A7V German tanks from World War I with a crew of 17.

I don’t think these figures support that claim at all.

42 fatalities

The Osprey increases the area that can be controlled from a central location.

It’s been a while since I heard the exact states, but it seems I recall hearing how it almost doubled the range of control, and required far fewer aircraft to put people on site.

It’s an amazing aircraft IMO.

The osprey is air refuelable and twice as fast as a conventional helicopter. The one that got shot up in combat survived and made it to an emergency landing. No better than a helicopter but no worse.

The pilots here in Yuma love them compared to the phrogs they replaced.

Thanks for the response.

I wasn’t aware they could refuel in air. I’ve seen some pretty good reports on them, so I’m sure I was exposed to that information before.

That doubles the range. Very nice.

I like that you can put a whole combat force on the ground with one or two vehicles.

Small villages can expect to see us a lot more often, a lot further out from the center of operations.

Very cool.

Nice to hear those using it are happy with it. Says a lot to me.

More quiet than a helicopter when in ‘airplane’ configuration, too.

Use the link I lofted on this thread.

The bad record of the Osprey has been way oversold.

*****************************
A couple of years ago, a flight of several of the Air Force versions of the Osprey flew from the US East Coast to somewhere in Africa and then flew back later; using in-flight refueling. ...Don’t recall where in Africa or the mission.

I worked at Bell from 1965-2001 (~24 yrs. in Quality Eng’ng. Mgt.), so observed closely the development of the two XV-15 tilt rotor proof-of-concept aircraft that led to the V-22. One was badly damaged due to a tornado that hit our flight test facility; the other is in the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in D.C.

I gave presentations to Marine squadrons at MCAS New River, NC, and at our V-22 assembly facility in Amarillo TX. The Marines love the versatility and speed of the Osprey.

Apologies to all for rambling, but the topic stirred memories.

Octex, that wasn’t rambling to me.

I could see the pride in what you were reporting, and hey I fully support that.

They used to just blister the B1 Bomber. Today is has a lot more respect.

It may not be all they wanted it to become, but I think it does a pretty good job. Others can correct me if I’m off base.

These projects are pretty amazing, the development of new concepts. I approve heartily.
