I thought there was a 400 ft limit on drones.

Yes 400 feet is the limit.

So either drone was too high or the heli was lower than stated.

If I hear any aircraft, I descend immediately.

Incorrect....the quad/camera is 1380 grams (3.04 pounds).

I assume the 8.8 pounds is the shipping weight for an entire system.

Washington had already provided rules and regulations for drones. Incredible as it may seem, those regulations did absolutely nothing to prevent this recent incident. Maybe even mo' better rules and regulations will help. Let's turn a useful tool into a spork because some people can't act like responsible adults. Like guns and SUVs before, drones are just the most recent item for hysterics to run in circles over.

If an individual behaves in a dangerous and irresponsible manner, then you prosecute that individual. The alternative is to turn to Washington, every time something bad happens, and ask those geniuses to write more rules to help us proles run our lives. Eventually, you'll have people demanding warning labels on avocados.

Something I also found out about the these drones. They periodically prompt you to get firmware updates. These updates limit the altitudes that the drone will fly to if the GPS indicates that it’s within certain distances relative to an airport. Some of the older drones haven’t been updated for whatever reason and so are not limited.
