Mark Lane was a long time member of National Lawyer’s Guild, a “progressive” association that was in fact a thinly disguised front group for the Communist Party.
The Left had a big interest in deflecting attention away from Oswald because of Oswald’s leftist/Communist background. And that’s what Mark Lane’s book did.
I’m sure that that old communist apparatchik was amazed at how eagerly his bullshit was gobbled up by America’s conservatives.

However, the full story of Soviet KGB/Communist Party USA penetration of SCLC and as King’s advisors (Levinson and O’Dell to start with, plus a few others), concerns national security. They definitely need to be opened ASAP because they have relevancy for today (i.e. Obama’s inner circle of Reds and possible Soviet operatives).

In part, I think this is an attempt at self-justification on the part of NBC - who is feeling the bite of advancing irrelevancy. They’re getting out in front of the impending release date and creating an issue.
If Trump delays or denies the release, they can point to their suspicions and crow about how they warned everyone about the eeeeeebil Trump.
If Trump does nothing and the release proceeds, they can claim their ‘journalism’ somehow ‘pressured’ him into ‘doing the right thing.
There was no reason to hide it in the first place if it was all on the up and up like the government said it was.
No kidding. Does anybody really believe the evidence will still be there anyway after all these years. The only reason it was locked up until the date it was is so all the guilty parties involved would be dead by that time.
