Seems like #2 would serve to keep the swamp in power. #3, if that is the desire, then I think that you would be more likely to get that. #4- Really? You think that money would be eliminated? LOL.
I have thought this over, and have wondered if there isn’t a need for maybe another chamber to represent the country as a whole, with those people elected nationwide. Reps are supposed to be for the people of their state, and senators originally were supposed to represent their states, but there is no one to represent the country as a whole.
Well get moving. Find a couple of good Republicans and have them switch parties to Democrat in case the Governer needs to appoint a Dem.

Well 2 can play that game. The gov should find the most conservative republican he can find and say he how about you be a democrat on paper wink wink. Nod nod.
I think the difference is that they are corrupt for their own state interests.
It's easier to manage 50 corruptions localized to their individual states, instead of the collusion of corruption at the federal level that is nationalized against the states and the people.
At least with the states, you have the self-interests of the other 49 states to balance the corruption of a runaway state. National corruption ends with weaponizing the arms of government against its people in order to protect the establishment.
RE: #4 - The money... let's think it through.
I think that doing away with the elections will dry up the existing money spigots, such as McConnell's NRSC. What legitimate FEC filings would explain why he raises the money if there are no Senate elections? What reportable expenditures could he make that's not an out-and-out bribe to state legislators if there is no state election, just a vote in the legislative chambers?
He will have to rebuild a new power network to replace it, since it would be harder for McConnell to use national money to influence the state appointment in Mississippi or Alabama, like he's done in the past. There would be no more primaries and run-offs to influence, and no general election to dilute with fake candidates to split votes.
I'd like to hear how you view the role of money in a non-elected Senate.

Weren’t Federal Senators chosen by state legislatures prior to Amendment 17? I don’t remember quite that far back. But even if they are appointed, that’s where some money can change hands.
There are oversight committees, auditors, inspectors general, state attorneys general, partisan newspapers, etc. Give me a scenario where a federal Congressional Senator (or majority/minority leader) would engage in a quid pro quo illegal cash transfer to influence an entire legislature to vote for the Washington DC party's favorite over a local favorite.

1. the obscene amount of money spent in senatorial races will be seriously reduced.
2. They will need to be more responsive to the needs of the state.
3. The constitution called for the Legislature to select their senator. The people select their house members, but the legislature selects the senator. I believe that is a better arrangement and will keep the senators from being slaves to their donors and lobbyists. The state will be all important to them.
We’re gittin Flake this time around. McCain will not run again.
AZ law that if a sitting Senator can’t fulfill their term, the Governor has to replace with a person of the same party.
Sad that these donors are the only ones the GOPe/RINOs might listen to....

Apparently. I think Flake is done. He is no McCain. I will say this, when election time nears McCain campaigns to the right of the John Birch Society. He just lies to the people about what he wants to do and what he believes. People who only pay attention during the run up to an election simply don’t know any better. Their fault of course but that has been the case for quite a while.
