Trump promises big tax cuts, but GOP-led Congress is already thinking about scaling back
The Los Angeles Times ^ | October 11th, 2017 | Lisa Mascaro and Jim Puzzanghera

President Trump promised the largest tax cut in history, but as he hit the road Wednesday to promote the plan, Republicans in Congress were quietly discussing scaling back key provisions in an effort to deliver the top White House priority.

There’s already talk that the cornerstone of the GOP proposal — a dramatically reduced 20% corporate tax rate that Trump has called a “red line” — may slip to 22% or 23%, those familiar with negotiations said.

Trump had originally promised a 15% rate for corporations. But Republicans are running into resistance from lawmakers and lobbyists who want to preserve deductions and loopholes that were targeted for elimination under the White House plan to offset the massive corporate cut from the current 35% rate.

This is the third in my unknown-length series of postings on the completely worthless and corrupt Republicans.

I mean, if you were walking down the street and saw a Republican politician on fire, would you stop to piss on it?

The bottom line is this: They will only pay attention to their big donors. If the big donors get together and put the squeeze on them, then things will change. Why? Because it is all about the money and money is what keeps them in office.

Truly worthless people.

They don't even have the nerve allow the American people keep more of their rightly earned money.

It would mean they would have to do with less.

Even though citizens of the Republic already have to do with less because of them.

Not illegal enough I guess.

“I know it won’t happen”

A real champion at the Bully Pulpit may be able to shame Congress into that 2/3 vote...

They don’t want Trump to win.

Isn’t this obvious by now?

They can't pass something they universally agree on (Health Care), much less something like this.

I'd just like to be eligible for at least one deduction beyond my mortgage interest. My wife and I get no credit or deductions and I"m sick of the computer programs spewing "Your income is to high for this credit/deduction".

You are in Texas and it’s apparent that you itemize.

And, I assume those who itemize in Texas also deduct some percentage of their sales taxes, the property taxes and excise taxes.

According to many stupid folks here on FR, you don’t exist.

We have control. No term limits. But I would say return the Senate to the States, and have them appointed by the legislature.

We were warned about the “political party” by someone who knew about the country because he and other great men built it. What we have now is a travesty and something needs to be done. We are even past most of the grievances of our American Colonist brothers and sisters.

Should compile a list of the swamp creatures and never trumpers in the Senate. I just learned of a really vile trump hater in a guy called Basse.

Thank you for referencing that article Mariner. Please note that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

Patriots, consider this side note concerning the ultimate tax cut plan imo.

From a related thread …

When the state legislatures gave up their voices in Congress by ratifying the ill-conceived 17th Amendment (17A), they unthinkingly effectively repealed the whole Constitution by doing so imo.

So patriots need to support Trump in working with the states to repeal 17A. The 16th Amendment can disappear too.

Once 17A is gone and unconstitutional federal taxes are stopped, taxes that Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers, then the following will happen imo.

The states will probably find a tsunami of new revenues that they won’t know what to do with and be able to start experimenting with their own, individual healthcare and retirement plans, increase funding for public schools, police and fire departments, and repair infrastructure for starters.

"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States."—Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

In fact, Thomas Jefferson, and later John Bingham, Bingham a constitutional lawmaker, had reflected on the 10th Amendment when they officially indicated that the states had reserved the care of the people uniquely to themselves.

Patriots need to make sure that there are plenty of state sovereignty-respecting, Trump-supporting patriot candidates on the primary ballots and pink-slip career lawmakers by sending patriot candidate lawmakers to DC on election day 2018.
