Senators proposed a bill this summer to prevent federal taxpayer funding from going towards the construction of professional sports arenas, and after more players began supporting the protest of the national anthem before games, the legislation may begin to pick up steam.
A companion measure to the legislation was already proposed in the House back in March by Oklahoma Republican Rep. Steve Russell.

Taxpayers should never have financed stadiums for billionaire owners and their millionaire players.

One suspects that in a similar fashion, any LOCAL elections for local funding of sports arenas will be henceforth spurned by voters not wanting to pay to have their Country, their Military, their law enforcement, or their way of life insulted.
Call it a "statement".

Likewise for city and metro areas funding. We WILL NOT forget and we will not forgive.
Next time our home team demands a brand new stadium or else they'll move we will be right there with pictures of the players kneeling and the middle finger.

Why is this a federal issue? If local and state governments want to piss their tax dollars away on billion-dollar playgrounds, let them.

Word around Tampa is the Bucs, being the spoiled brats they are are demanding Raymond James be remodelled AGAIN, if not replaced with a bigger stadium with the good citizens of Hillsborough County footing the bill. If they don't get their way, they'll threaten to pull out of Tampa Bay, to which I would say, even if there weren't this Anthem controversy

That’s what I said yesterday here. If they can’t support America, why should Americans support them?

Taxpayers should never have financed stadiums for billionaire owners and their millionaire players. It's insane.
We're all chipping in so families that can afford $600 for a 'family night out' don't have to pay $800 for the night out? In my book the damn 'elites' can pay for the own damn entertainment.
Insane.

If local and state governments want to piss their tax dollars away on billion-dollar playgrounds, let them. With all due respect, E cubed. ;) (Is that right? It's been a long time since was in high school. ;) ), it's not the local and state government's money--it is the money sent in by hard-working people who should have a say in how those dollars are spent.
And I suspect brand new stadiums are going to be a bit less popular among those taxpayers.

The sports arenas in this country were not built for the “common good” of the people.

Amen. Pro teams are, for the most part, money machines. To pick the pockets of taxpayers who cant even afford to go to the stadium to watch these teams is a crime.

One more great ‘unintended consequence’...
Defund all of ‘em. Every damn Stadium in the Country
No more welfare for Billionaire Sports Team Owners.
