SEOUL, South Korea — The United States military said on Monday that it would practice evacuating noncombatant Americans out of South Korea in the event of war and other emergencies, as the two allies began a joint naval exercise amid heightened tensions with North Korea.

The exercise, known as Courageous Channel, is scheduled from Oct. 23 to 27. The annual training drills are aimed at preparing American “service members and their families to respond to a wide range of crisis management events such as noncombatant evacuation and natural or man-made disasters,” the United States military said in a statement.

If we are serious about North Korea, we should be bringing these people home NOW.

I am in the city of Changwon, South Korea... if I hear any sounds of war I’ll let you know. In the mean time I’ll just hunker down in my hotel during the evening and go to work daily.

I hope the readiness of American forces in south Korea are better than when I was there - very good, if just on paper.

IMO we should publicly announce the withdrawal of all military personnel (and dependents) for the ROK.At the same time we should position at least two boomers not far off the Japanese coast.

If Kim Phat Boi decides to attack, the DPRK army will unleash torrents of artillery fire on Seoul just for starters.

Evacuating U.S. civilians must be accomplished long before then. Immediately if not sooner, IMO.

Why is this advertised?

I know the Slimes could care less, but any preparations need to be kept secret. The Norks have spies everywhere.

If so, ‘freepmail’ “TigerLikesRooster” there in South Korea and see if you can look him up. TLR is a wealth of knowledge on this topic, has been for years here on FR.

When civilians and family start leaving it will be obvious. So, practicing for such an evacuation doesn’t tip off anything.

Was stationed in Yongsan in 1985 and remember them having this exercise. This is nothing to get excited about. No different than a lifeboat drill on a cruise ship.
