While the media fixates on the circus surrounding Mitch McConnell v. Steve Bannon with Donald Trump as ringmaster and the Democrats in the role of the increasingly disloyal -- now Harvey-besmirched -- opposition, the real story involves none of these people directly.
Four Republican senators hold and have held our country in their hands for most of this year by themselves. They obstruct progress by wielding far too much power than their positions and number merit.
They are Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and John McCain of Arizona.
These four prevented healthcare reform and they now stand in the way of tax reform.

How can tax reform which lowers taxes on the middle class hurt the 49% who pay no income taxes whatsoever? The libs are trotting out the old “tax cuts for the rich” mantra again.
I think the author is being overly simplistic here.
Rand Paul has been instrumental in killing FAKE obamacare “repeal and replace” bills, none of which actually would do that. In general, the Paul Ryan derived bills made things far worse, driving up costs particularly for the various classes of Trump supporters. Rand Paul has also been instrumental in working with Trump to do via executive action what Congress has refused to do.
On the other hand, those other three have worked very hard to assure that obamacare continue like it has.
You hate Bannon. You hate trump. Haters got to hate.
Rand Paul is also a medical doctor who knows better than anyone else in Washington how badly our fouled-up health care system works for the people who matter most in health care: the patient and the doctor.
I have said any number of times here that I would have voted for Moore over Strange in the Alabama primary a few weeks ago. By your logic, I guess that means I love Bannon but hate Trump.
And yet Luther Strange was 100% on board with the Trump agenda, but that didn't give him any credibility with Bannon and most Freepers.
Spell it out.
Very simplistic, yes. The only significant vote Strange had was with the so-called Repeal and Replace pile of dung and he only did that because he had the cover since the others were already there to kill it. Paul was totally counter to the other three amigos, two welfare whores and the other, well he just let us all know what a POS his is from his little butt-hurt rant yesterday, but we already knew that. Paul wanted the whole thing dead. Truth be told, I would not be surprised that at least 25 of the Pubics would have stepped into the breach in the event any one of the three amigos wilted.
The author of this article measures senators based on their support of opposition to a health care reform bill, but apparently doesn’t realize that: (1) many crappy senators supported the health care reform bill, and (2) one of those four (Rand Paul) is one of the strongest “America first” advocates in Washington today.
The issue I have with Senators like McCain, Collins, et al., is not that they "have too much power," but they seem to be completely unwilling to engage in any sort of discourse to arrive at legislation with which they CAN agree. If you take them at their word, they have nearly all said at one time or another, that Obamacare is terrible, and doesn't work for the majority of Americans. I doubt any of them would dispute that our tax system could be improved. Their heels are dug in though, simply to oppose Trump.
If you don't like the way the legislation has been crafted by your party, step up and change it in a meaningful way. Do it not because you want Trump to succeed, but because it would be good for our country and its citizens.
Rand Paul has moved the Bill to the Right and has voted for them, so I don’t think he can be included with these 3.
Strange was on board until five minutes after his re-election.
Four anti-American zeros. Ignorant, incompetent and worthless.
I don’t disagree with you. The same could be said for many other senators ... which makes the underlying premise of this piece absolutely stupid.
I don’t know why you’d include Rand Paul in that group. That guy probably reflects Trump’s agenda better than anyone else in the U.S. Senate.
