Trump: ‘Freedom Is Not a Gift from Government; Freedom Is a Gift from God’
Washington Free Beacon ^ | 10/17/17 | Paul Crookston

Posted on 10/17/2017 7:05:17 PM PDT by markomalley

President Donald Trump spoke at the Heritage Foundation’s annual President’s Club meeting and credited the Founding Fathers for understanding that freedom doesn’t come from government.

Trump echoed previous comments he has made, such as in June when he declared, "In America, we don’t worship government, we worship God." He credited the Heritage Foundation for understanding this.

"You understand that human progress must be built upon a firm foundation of timeless truths," Trump told the Heritage crowd. "These truths are immortalized in our founding documents, and the most important truth our Founders understood was this: Freedom is not a gift from government; freedom is a gift from God."

"And that is why we are here tonight, to rededicate ourselves to the defense of our God-given rights," he added. "We are here to ensure that we defend this legacy from any threat, foreign or domestic."

Trump also said understanding these ideas is key to valuing America.

"Everyone here understands a core truth, that for America to have confidence in our future we must have pride in our history," he said. "As Americans, we have inherited a special legacy of freedom, culture, laws, traditions, and values."

He pointed to the identity of his hosts to highlight these ideas.

"Your organization is named the Heritage Foundation because you understand that our glorious heritage is the foundation for everything we hope to achieve."

So rare to have a public servant understand the premise of our founding documents. Even more rare for our President to make a statement of such understanding. Savor this moment fellow Freepers and stuff it never Trumpers.

If I had ordered presidential speeches from Gd himself they couldn’t be better. Some of his words (no matter who wrote them) are better than Reagan’s.

What is appalling is that so many Americans don’t understand the basic premise of America. No matter what color your skin, what creed, what lifestyle, the basic tenet of Creator-given freedom, and Limits on Government, should appeal to your deepest soul.

It’s such an obvious thing, but it’s nice to hear a president say it, especially with the forces of collectivism on the march.

It’s so unusual to hear a President talk like this.

I like it.

Amen!

Millennials at work were discussing the 1st amendment. I informed them the Constitution didn’t give us the Freedom of Speech, that it was an inalienable right. God given.

The first 5 words of the 1st...Congress shall make no law

That says it all.

The Constitution doesn’t limit us, it limits the ruling elites. That’s it’s sole purpose.

Trump needs to ‘splain to Rip van Sessions that Making America Great Again is all about Personal Liberty, not Statism.

Amen. It is a refreshing change especially after his weak ‘pro life’ comments from the campaign.

That was the big debate between the federalist and anti-federalist. The anti-federalist wanted the Bill of Rights to limit government and list our natural rights, while the federalist assumed those rights and thought no government would ever take them away. (yeah right)

Freedom’s foundation is freedom from oppressive government.

It is a measure of how far we’ve descended when such a statement from the President is in any way remarkable. This one made my evening. Core belief - if you don’t understand this you don’t understand the country or the people in it.

Folks, two years ago, if you had predicted Donald J. Trump would be advancing God's and our nation's cause on religious principles at this time, I'd have laughed at you.

Let Trump be an inspiration to us, knowing that God can work through us at any stage of our lives, if we let Him.

Trump has been far less than perfect at points in his life. That doesn't matter when he shines the light on God.

I would also say that the evil one can work through us at any stage of our lives, unless we forbid him to.

The Left, John McCain, those who have made it their life's goal to take down Trump even if it means harming our nation, isn't it clear the two sides at work here?

Trump clearly desires to work for God. He respects him. Those who oppose him, do not clearly wish to serve our God. Look at what they have proposed at this time.

I will not blindly endorse everything Trump does, but when he delivers a speech like this, it's impossible to deny he is doing good works.

God bless him for focusing on the truths of not only our time, but of the ages.

Glory be to God. Thank you for reminding us Mr. President.
