It looks like the left-leaning political bloviating has finally caught up to the troubled ESPN network.
Not long ago, the sports channel was forced to admit that lecturing Americans about politics wasnt exactly a smart business plan. With revenue dropping, ESPN had no choice but to drastically eliminate staff but now it may be considering an even more dramatic cut.
The Hollywood Reporter has suggested that there are signs the struggling sports company may be getting ready to walk away from the NFL.
ESPNs contract to air Monday Night Football games is expiring fairly soon
and some experts think the sports giant wont be renewing that agreement.

A lot of good folks are in check out mode. If "check out" mode means not turning on the idiot box to get news, watch TV or otherwise cause one's brain to atrophy then I'm in "check out" mode.
TV isn't the only way to get news, thankfully.
Turn off the propaganda!

It would be a good thing for the NFL if ESPN did give up the contract. It’s not like nobody’s going to pick it up. The new somebody won’t be as PC as ESPN, so....it’s all good.
To: usconservative
That’s exactly what it means. Unfortunately, a lot of good folks don’t know where to get the real news from - the alternative sources.

DING! DING! DING!
We have a winner!!
They had it MADE! There are very few people, man, woman or child who doesn't like checking the scores, stats and replays, but they didn't tune in to be lectured to nor at, by a bunch of script readers!!
Like the old saying says, "Make your bed, now you got to lay in it!" If they completely stop airing, it won't make a damn dimes difference to me!!

The Left ESPN came to love their leftist Social Justice causes far more than football, a long time ago.
The Left rather hated football, despised the patriotism demonstrated, used the game as an instrument just to display their liberal arrogance, fired good white guys and had the run of the field.
Sold out to $$$, the games were already way too long, for ad money, and soaking up half of weekends.
Rush nailed them.
SJW won.... until now.

There may be some escape clause in the contract, perhaps involving minimal ad revenues.

Descending colon krappernic may not be the sole cause for both the nfl’s and espn’s demise, but he sho’ ‘nuf accelerated their fall.
At least colon was good for something.

The NFL is also shedding viewership so quickly, maybe they’ll find they’re made for each other - like a couple of crackheads.
To: Alberta's Child
I think this contract runs through 2021. Is that what they call "fairly soon" in the TV business? ...yeah, that was what I wondered. I'd figure that negotiations don't even start for another couple of years...
ESPN may be looking for legal grounds to terminate their contract ... yeah, that's what I wondered, too. Wonder if there's some sort of out clause if revenue/eyeballs drops off by a certain percentage. I mean, if ESPN bought NFL rights expecting X million viewers, and NFL policies (or lack thereof) have demonstrably lowered that to (1/2)X viewers....
