A large Christian cross image, formed by sunlight, for many years has appeared, then disappeared and vice versa on a 368 meter tall communications tower in the middle of Berlin, Germany. The tower is the Fernsehturm TV Tower built between 1965 and 1969 by the German Democratic government-Communist in East Germany.
When the sun shines on the Fernsehturms titled stainless steel dome, an image of a Christian cross usually appears. The architects of the tower and dome never purposely deigned the structure to project the cross image and were just as surprised as everyone else when they first saw it, or so the story is told. As a critique against the atheist core of the Communist government, which led to the destruction of many churches, the persecution of Christian leaders and Chrisitanityin, many Berliners call the luminous cross Rache des Papstes or Popes Revenge. Some residents even envisioned a message from Saint Walter aka Walter Ulbricht.

One of the most formidable pieces of East German Communism was the East Berlin Radio Tower used to spy on Berlin and the sorounding countryside (of course to block American BBC Radio).
I was kid when I looked up at this thing and still resonates to me even today as communists always want to ensure that the Government is bigger than any man, woman or child.
This is a great story. Goto Youube to see and listen to Berliners who grew up in the shadow of this monstrosity. Little did they know that Christ had a different tale to tell the East Berlin Communists, Stasi and KGB.
Praying for Las Vegas and Texas.
I served in Berlin from 82-85.
The tower was built on land owned by the Catholic Church prior to WWII, and the EGermans also confiscated the funds collected by the church for rebuilding their bombed out cathedral.
On the 50 or so days each year that you see the sun in Berlin it always brought a smile...
Bought my new smartphone there. KFC is there. Everything you want is there. We go many times. I may go today or definitely tomorrow.
The Tower has a rotating restaurant. Been there a few times. Need to take my daughter soon. Yes I think we will do that.
My dad, love him so much and miss him, had a 3 Minutes life expectancy in Berlin 51/52. Many of you here may have been there. I lost him 21 years ago.
So funny, true story; In Second Grade a Military book was brought in by another kid my age. I was paging through it and sure enough I saw my dad.
I begged the kid to let me bring it home and sure enough, on a Saturday morning, I showed my dad his picture In the book of him loading a shell in Berlin.
It was him, and to this day I love the fact that I knew my dads face as he also remembered the picture as being on a hill during training. He later told me he was scared shitless but was thinking of some good beer and a warm place to bunker down.
My dad learned to cook as an Army Sargent. He learned to make Pancake, not pancakes as you just pour the batter into the pan, flip twice and serve after cutting into 8 pieces.
My dad, who I love so much, made coffee for me if we wanted, my brother and I, and we chose Hell Yeah!
My mother worked as a nurse at Hospital on weekends growing up and I missed her, however, my dad was able to coach our soccer, which he never understood, but he coached us.
I would never, ever change a darn thing. We went to church every Sunday, and after the last couple of weeks, I must bring my family back Catholic Service. Long live Vienna!
Go figure, that is, still, a tower of hate.

Thanks for posting. I never heard of it and did some researching and found this video of Ronald Reagan mentioning it in a speech.

Also once known as the "die Disco kugel"... But that was a long time ago.
We overlapped in Berlin, I was there 84-88. Army or Air Force?
