VA voted for Hillary Clinton. It is the state of government leeches, drawing their paychecks from taxpayers.
If you give us a choice between a democrat and a democrat in drag, who do we vote for? No one. Why bother even showing up to the polls if we lose either way. And that is why the down ticket races were lost.
More and more of us are unwilling to hold our nose and vote for the enemy of America that the GOP tries to foist on us.
The GOP has got to accept the reality that there is no middle. You are either a pro-Constitution Make America Great Again patriot or you are an enemy of America (liberal).
The time has come for all republicans to choose what side they are really on. We’ve now seen that Gillespie is anti-American. And thus he lost.
It might mean something had VA been a Trump state in the 2016 presidential election. Something that’s been repeatedly left out of the reports is that Clinton won VA.

I see now, looking at his district, the Second Congressional in Virginia, that he is butted up right against a HEAVY Demonrat area in the Commonwealth.
OTOH, he did get 60% of the vote next time.
Maybe he is just a panic monger. You’d think being a Navy SEAL he would know how to keep his cool.

Forty years ago they should have passed a law that anyone buying property in Virginia had to sign a pledge of their undying devotion to Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. That would have made those folks choose Maryland (which is hopelessly Democratic anyway).

Its a referendum on Ed Gillespie who is an establishment RINO that comes across as exactly what he is. In VA they don’t vote Democrat lite when they can have the real thing.
Actually, California was also lost because of amnesty in the 1980s....after 1988 it was no longer a competitive state.
2018 will tell us about the Trump administration, not a State election in two blue States.
