RIYADH Bribery, embezzlement, money laundering and abuse of power are among the charges against dozens of princes, officials and businessmen detained in an anti-corruption probe, according to sources.
The Saudi Center for International Communication (CIC), an initiative of the Ministry of Culture and Information, said that sums of money that appear to be linked to corruption cases will be reimbursed to the Saudi states General Treasury.
A no-fly list has been drawn up and security forces in some Saudi airports were barring owners of private jets from taking off without a permit, a section of the Arabic press reported on Monday.
Eleven princes, four ministers and tens of former ministers were detained late on Saturday after Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman decreed the creation of an anti-corruption committee chaired by Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman.
The new body has been given broad powers to investigate cases, issue arrest warrants and travel restrictions, and seize assets.
The royal decree said the crackdown came in response to exploitation by some of the weak souls who have put their own interests above the public interest, in order to, illicitly, accrue money.
Saudis have praised the round-up of princes and ministers as long-awaited and necessary to modernize the economy.
Meanwhile, Kingdom Holding Company (KHC) in a press release issued on Monday said that it was aware of various media reports regarding activities in Saudi Arabia on Saturday (Nov. 4, 2017), which relate to the Companys Chairman of the Board.
The Company continues its normal business operations. The executive senior management affirms its full commitment to continue the Companys work, its commitment to its investors and shareholders, and affirms the support of the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Kingdom Holding is proud of this testimony, the KHC statement said.
On Sunday, Attorney General Sheikh Saud Al-Mojeb said in a statement, The suspects are being granted the same rights and treatment as any other Saudi citizen. A suspects position or status does not influence the firm and fair application of justice.
It would seem that we could learn a thing or two from the Saudis about dealing with corrupt untouchables
Saudi Arabia. That bastion of due process.

AG Sessions? See above. Apply justice accordingly.

Hmmm ..... we've got quite a few of those in this country ..... if implicated with the Saudi corruption cases (i.e. receiving vast sums of Saudi money for return favors), maybe we should just turn them over? They'd get some form of punishment whereas in this country, they'll probably never be held to account. I'm only half joking here.
If you can’t trust the Saudis, who can you trust? :>)
I hope part of the outcome is lesser influence of muzzie lobbying groups here in the USA — muzzie brotherhood, CAIR, etc.
I bet the Bushes feel like their world crumbling. First Trump. Now their Saudi puppet masters.
I suppose its progress in some way when even the Saudis use modern-day, legalistic, accusations like “money-laundering” and “tax evasion” in their political purges.
it wasn’t very long ago when they simply would have had everyone’s throat cut in the night.
“A suspects position or status does not influence the firm and fair application of justice.
What a novel concept. I wish we could say that about US justice...
Provided there’s evidence.................
Evidence to be provided................
Things are so strangely quite from the Trump camp while Mueller rages on and on.
I can’t help but think that perhaps Trump will outwit him and his team with a joint midnight raid on all of those involved in the Saudi corruption sweep.....The Podestas immediately come to mind
While there is no extradition treaty between Saudi and the US, I'm sure there may be some money laundering charge which could be leveled by some country which DOES have extradition treaties with the US, and from which the perps could be extradited to Saudi Arabia.
They would only cut the troats of their competitors.
Having done business in Saudi, been their countless times, the entire country is corrupt.
Every single “royal” is getting a piece of the action on every deal.
Foreign investors/business in Saudi? If they are there are only there because they bribed the right person.
Not sure the spelling, but “bach-chese”. . .meaning a “gift” under the table.
And any forein business needs to be supported by the right person to make sure the corruption payments get to the right person.
And the business MUST have 51% Saudi ownership. . .so you end up with some Saudi (well connected) on staff but you never see him or does he ever do anything once approvals are granted.
Saudi is the center of the universe when it comes to corruption. Egypt second.
They have been rug merchants for a thousands of years.
This corruption thing is a surprise, not because there’s corruption there, but because of an (apparent) crack-down.
Do you sense that the crack down will ‘hold’ or is there an end game and this is just a step to get there?
Hoping my question makes sense! Thanks
Sounds like the kind of people the Clintons would do business with...
Not sure, no one is. It is Saudi, no one ever knows what they are thinking.
Why the crack-down to begin with?
Thinking the King wants to take away power (money) from the squabblers that want his throne, and by throwing some under the bus he is causing the other 3,000 members of the Royal family to step back and stop this open wrangling over the throne before he passes.
A few high visibility arrests, some to to jail, some even may die (you won’t hear of it but the family will), and they will jump back into their box.
I think the family was openly fighting over the throne and the King had his favorite and that favorite probably was losing the struggle to get support. The King doing what he did sent a message of support for his favorite and this is important before the King dies because the family (all of them) want to be on the live King’s right side and they got the message on who they better back for succession.
Just my guess. . .
Thank you for the information, I am trying to get a better understanding and appreciate your help.
