I read the entire CBS article and it is clearly constructed to be inflammatory and elicit emotional knee-jerk reactions to further divide Trump and his administration as well as gin-up leftist “Resist” support. I don’t find Geneal Hyten’s remarks to out of line; they strike me as temperate, measured and reasoned.

Makes sense.

I think you’re right about this.

My questions:

Who defines what is illegal? Hopefully not the UN?

Who deems an order illegal?

The idiot liars at CBS are insinuating Trump would issue illegal orders and just launch a strike for no reason. What a load of horse pucky.

Military officers are required by law to refuse to carry out illegal orders but there is no definition of what is or is not legal in regards to the release of nuclear weapons.

If we have incoming the President will confer with his military advisors as time permits then will issue his orders and will use the “football” to authenticate and transmit those orders. Its a short chain from there to to Launch Control Centers out in the missile fields and the folks in that chain have no knowledge of how the order came about, they just do their duty.

If the President wants to release a weapon first there will be enough talk and gnashing of teeth before the release order is given. The President is not going to do this in a vacuum.

I wonder if he would have launched if false President O’Muzzie had ordered a strike on Israel.

Oh, then let’s just give up./s

Instead, how about we hire Liberty University, Hillsdale College, etc. graduates. I’m sure they would be willing to serve.

Even better, don’t replace the positions at all, and REDUCE, REDUCE, REDUCE the Federal Gov’t!

The reason he addressed this in public (and he had to have been expecting the question) is because Gen Kehler (ret), a previous commander of stratcom, testified on the Hill the other day.

A democrat asked Kehler the same question - obviously an attempt to try to make Pres Trump look bad. Since Hyten is the current stratcom commander, he no doubt had a prepared answer.

This is CBS fake news as others have pointed out.

I know there are former missile commanders here who will confirm that they and their deputy carry sidearms while on duty in the remote case that he/she refuses to obey authenticated orders.

General: I recommend against firing a Nuc at this time Mr President.

POTUS: I have taken your concerns under advisement. Launch the Nuc.

General: Yes Sir.

“The general is correct. We as officers are taught to seek clarification of unclear orders. You want some checks and balances right? Yes, the general is correct. We as military officers are not to follow illegal orders. There is no I was following orders defense.”

You’d better stick with your ponies poker.

“...when in reality this general was talking in generic terms?”

Maybe so, but that is not the way it came out. Sometimes you are supposed to keep things inside the conference room. He needs to go.

Any officer has a duty to disobey an illegal order. He may also have to decide if it’s worth a court martial.

In Vietnam we were directed not to make statements to the press without the commander’s approval. This was redundant since we weren’t sure of the pressies’ intentions so all they got from us in the A.O. were cold stares.

But in this case there’s just the teensiest insinuation in the G.O.’s public statement that Trump is a nuclear madman.

For that, can him. Too sensitive a post.

The Commander in Chief determines the legality of his orders before he issues them. That is why he is the Commander in Chief, and not the U.N. or some snowflake General or activist judge, thank God! : )

Read the article. The jack@ss who wrote this is trying to make it a Trump thing because of his ‘bombastic’ statements regarding fat man. The general’s answer is a generic answer which would apply to any bloody president. The writer is an @ss and punk.
