Rep. Trent Franks, an Arizona Republican who is among the most conservative members of the House, said he would resign his seat after House officials learned that he had asked two female employees to bear his children as surrogates.
Franks’s announcement came as the House Ethics Committee said it would create a special subcommittee to investigate Franks for conduct “that constitutes sexual harassment and/or retaliation for opposing sexual harassment.”
His resignation, which Franks said is effective Jan. 31, will end the ethics investigation........

I guess you don’t understand surrogacy. His former female CoS said today that the Franks were unable to have children and Franks wife was the problem. Evidently, Franks asked two of his staffers if they would be interested in being surrogates so the Franks could have a family. It was admittedly a dumb move to ask employees, but it would be hard for me to see it as sexual harassment. Surrogacy involves a medical procedure, there isn’t any sexual contact involved.
Was this not ok? Because if I had ever been told this was frowned upon....

Franks and his wife, Josephine, have been married since 1980; they are members of the North Phoenix Baptist Church. Franks’ wife, Josephine, is an immigrant. In August 2008, a donor egg and surrogate were used to give birth to their twins, Joshua Lane and Emily Grace.

I think at this point the best tactic for a congressman or senator is, when any female in the office wants to have conversation, tell them, “Not now, I’m working”, then bury your head in some papers.
If you need to ask them a question or engage in work discussions, talk to them at a distance of at least ten feet, and try to avoid eye contact, smiles, or any other facial expression. Also, keep the office door open at all times.
Really, this whole thing is getting way out of hand.

No matter what someone might think about it happens all the time. What he did is not sexual harassment.
I think, on the face of it, he’s weird and a sleezy kind of loser.
You don’t ask your employees such a thing unless you are close enough to meet in private, spouses included, to enter a very personal and serious discussion.
Maybe that is what happened, but it doesn’t sound like it.

I have a theory on all of these resignations. Someone contacted these guys and said we know “....” about you. You can resign and go home with reputation intact or we’ll make the information public.
Whatever we are hearing is not nearly as despicable or illegal as what the truth is.
