Oregonians lose it when they realize they might have to start pumping their own gas

Of all the new laws going into effect Monday (legal cannabis in California, higher minimum wages in several states, and many more), you may be surprised about which one drew the most backlash online. It appears to be Oregon House Bill 2482, which allows people who live in counties with 40,000 residents or less to pump their own gas.

Oregonians aired their frustrations on Facebook over the new law. And just about everyone else in the country made fun of them.

New California laws going into effect in 2018 New era opens in California with first sales of recreational marijuana "I don't even know HOW to pump gas and I am 62, native Oregonian.....I say NO THANKS!" said Sandy Franklin on Facebook, in response to a post by local news station KTVL that asked for viewers' opinions on the new law.

Well, I went to OR in 2007, and as I recall, the gas station attendant did not want me pumping my own gas.

“I can’t believe what’s happened to my nation. It boggles the mind”.

In too many instances, common courtesy, common sense and simple decency, among other things, have been replaced by ignorance, no social skills and political correctness.

Liberals/Progressives have diseased minds.

More than one doper will light up as they are pumping gas.

Oh, wait. I misread you; you’re discussing the new law. Never mind.

While pumping my own gas about a month ago, I saw a woman who had to be 85 at least, creep out of her car, open the back door and haul out her walker. She opened it and crept around the back of her car using the walker up to the pump to enter her details, removed the nozzle and proceeded from there.

I closed my open jaw and carefully, so as not to startle her, approached her and told her if she needed help I was just across the way. She said she thought she could finish and she DID. Reversing putting nozzle back, walker into the back of car etc.

Yet this thing from Oregon had to pump his own gas ONCE and almost died - wait until he has to use a walker to do it. How useless and entitled can one get in Oregon?

IIRC, it is a crime to TOUCH a gas pump in NJ if not an employee.

The article also said that in all the counties where this "self-pumping" would be allowed, the gas station owners all have said they will continue to pump gas for their customers like they always have done.

In other words, nothing has changed.

Much to do about nada.

"This will sound silly but I used to enjoy going to the gas station in the 60’s with my parents and you’d see tires wrapped in gold, blue, and red foil. I always thought that was kind of a cool marketing thing to get you to look as you drove by."

Yes - the bigger ones, especially, used to sometimes be quite "decorated". Great good fun when I was a kid, too Some were/are also just plain unique

Mike Perrone said he's been living in Oregon his whole life and refuses to pump his own gas. The reason? "I had to do it once in California while visiting my brother and almost died doing it."

Not a good idea to pump gas with a lit joint in your mouth.

[have been replaced by ignorance]

Seems to be pervasive. I expected it in the rural world or liberal Europe.

I never expected my fellow citizens to be fooled by such an obvious fraud as BHO. It was alarming, frankly. And I started facing the very real effects of the crash in 2008. Though I don’t expect (and still don’t) an American President to be the Antichrist, people were worshiping him like he was.

I had “Christian” people at a Christian organization making excuses for his support of gays. The one I spoke to directly was black. Then I found out the other liberals were supporting him too.

The guy couldn’t have been more obvious if one looked 1/4 inch beneath the surface and the propaganda.

People afraid to pump their own gas? wow

Like you say, they will probably not survive even mildly-difficult situations.

“I did that as a kid. Not a bad first job.”

Not all that hard and you meet a lot of people, make chit-chat and give lost strangers directions. Actually a good service for others.

My uncle ran a service station across from my parents business when I was a kid in the 70’s. Needless to say they pumped the gas for any car that pulled in and good Lord as a ten year old me and my brothers would hang out and clean windshields of cars that pulled in and would even pump their gas. It ain’t rocket science, just common sense.

Follow the money, high minimum wage laws in Oregon finally caught up with the gas pumpers looks like. Maybe if Oregon doesn’t post any warning signs they can thin the herd and melt some snowflakes, literally.

Yeah, I used to live in WA and had relatives in OR. It was always funny when I tried to pump my gas I was treated like a criminal.

The only reason the law existed was to supply employment for those doing the pumping.

“to fix their own cars and grow their own food.”

Most of them wouldn’t know how to prepare soil, dig a trench for seeds, or follow the directions for planting on the packets of veggie seeds, so they’d have to go to the grocery store-but once their vehicle needed a repair, they’d be clueless on how to fix it so they wouldn’t be able to go buy food-they’d starve...

It did, indeed, come from a gas station promotion - different animal with each purchase.

I had one of these sets when I was five years old. I remember losing one of the hippos. It happened when I took the set to a neighbor’s house to play with it while she babysat my sister and me on the day our younger brother was born.

She was a very nice lady. She thoroughly searched her house several times trying to find my missing hippo, but it was never found.

The entire memory of that event just now flooded back to me when I saw that picture. It’s amazing what a simple image can do.
