Sam’s Club, a unit of Wal-Mart Stores Inc, closed a series of stores following a review, the membership-only store chain said in a tweet on Thursday.

The tweet came after a series of reports from local news outlets said some Sam's Club stores were closed abruptly on Thursday, with employees learning of the move as they arrived for work.

Some states have laws on the books on giving notice about plant closures, don’t know if the same applies to stores.

We have a Sam’s and a Walmart super center in SAME parking lot

We have one of those arrangements in NJ. Of the stores closing in NJ, that is the one store that isn't closing. Makes no sense to me.

And that is because Sam’s CEO, a black female, proudly admitted to deliberately hiring less qualified black candidates over what she said were better qualified white candidates.

That was back in 2015. As of a year ago, Sam's club's new CEO is a white guy. Hopefully they've learned their lesson about having somebody as CEO who is more interested in "social justice" objectives than the viability of the company.

The new CEO is going to have some challenges in turning things around. Perhaps closing stores was the only way to get rid of the affirmative action deadwood with without getting hit with civil rights lawsuits, in a state where the jury pool would be packed with Democrats.

I notice that most of these locations are quite...diverse.

Another FReeper made a similar comment. Two of the stores closing in NJ are in relatively affluent, suburban areas - Princeton and Budd Lake.

* I hit post before finishing my thought. *

So, there must be a different reason for them closing those two stores.

My sister was a branch manager for an investment firm about 10-15 years ago. When the announcement came that they were closing, people started carting computers, office furniture, etc. out the door. Anything they could grab. She told me it was mass pandemonium.

Looting is the main reason businesses close without announcement.

Actually the bonus is for everyone, not just those with 20 years of service. The bonus amount ranges from 200.00-1,000.00 with the larger amounts going to those with 20 years or more.

AS for the bonus going to those affected by this announcement, I guess that remains to be seen.

I live “in the hood” literally, so I understand.

I live next to Sheffield High School and Goodlett Elementary.
