Dick Durbin blew up DACA, deliberately
Legal Insurrection ^ | 1-15-2018 | William A. Jacobson

Democrats and the media think they have the golden bullet to take down Trump, in the form of the “s–thole” comment during DACA negotiations behind closed doors.

There are conflicting claims and reports as to whether the term was used, and to whom he was referring if it were used. Original reports said it was mentioned in relation to Haiti, but that has been walked back. Whether you agree with the comment or not, assuming it were used, it hardly merits the current obsession, with no sign of letting up. It’s 24/7. Many Republicans are asking only “how high” they have to jump in condemning Trump.

But as Ann Althouse pointed out, there’s nothing inherently racist is the term – unless you believe the worst about majority non-white countries. In which case you might be the racist:

“Shithole” is a perfectly good rude, slangy word. It has a great history, and it’s vivid and effective. It is not a racial term, and shame on the people who are making it racist. I wonder if these people ever think of the pain and damage they are causing by proclaiming and insisting upon a connection between dark skin and excrement. They’re revealing what’s in their head, and they don’t mind burdening dark-skinned people with the knowledge that they are being thought about like that.

Trump and two Republican Senators present deny the term was used, others present have observed a curious near-silence or have obfuscated, but Dick Durbin has been front and center asserting that the term was used.

If Durbin is lying, it wouldn’t be the first time.

In 2013 Durbin claimed that an unnamed Republican, in a closed door meeting with Obama and Speaker John Boehner, said “I cannot even stand to look at you.” Both the White House and Boehner denied that statement was made.

Durbin also claims Trump’s use of the term “chain migration” during the negotiation was racist, even though Durbin has used the term in the past.

The Washington Post did not say in its article disclosing the alleged Trump comment who the source was. But given Durbin’s history of lying about comments made behind closed doors and deliberate attempt to portray “chain migration” as a racist term, it’s reasonable to believe it was Durbin or someone acting for Durbin.

Why would Durbin deliberately seek to blow up the negotiations? John Hinderaker makes a good point, aside from Durbin’s history of doing such things:

This story is a good illustration of the bizarre times in which we live. Trump made a good point in a private meeting with a small number of legislators. He may have used profanity while doing so, but he wasn’t making a speech. His political enemy, Dick Durbin, then ran to the press to damage Trump by quoting–probably misquoting–his private comments. The press jumped on the story eagerly, assuming Durbin’s account was correct and happily damaging America’s interests, as Democrats and Democratic reporters smugly told us was happening. Lost in the shuffle was the fact that Trump is right about immigration–chain migration and the lottery are crazy and need to go, in favor of a merit-based system–and a large majority of Americans agree with him.

The negotiations were not going Durbin’s way. Trump was taking a much harder line than expected. So Durbin went for the Hail Mary pass, to make it into a racism issue. The “s–thole” press strategy was just part of it, as was the “chain migration” terminology.

Durbin wasn’t going to get his way on DACA, so he blew it up, figuring it will be better as a campaign issue.

Durbin should be censured for making his public claim, irrespective of any “truth defense.” Because whatever Trump said was not for public consumption if it damaged US interests - and Durbin intentionally acted to the detriment of the country.

Incidentally, Trump has been wearing a wire whenever he talks to journalists; he now knows - every Republican should know - better than to talk to any other type of Democrat without being able to document exactly what was and was not said.

Women complained about the “Pence rule” - but the senator has assured that it will in future apply not only to women but to all Democrats - singly or in groups.

They are afraid Trump will succeed, proving they have failed.
So the name calling continues. They have nothing else in the play book.

And it works for them to razzle their base, so why would they change. Dirty tricks and lies took out Moore and cost us in VA, and they’ll keep on doing this.

If I was the president I would flat out ban Dick Durban from anything having to do with the white house. treat him like as person-non-grada. Dick Durban can not be a part of any future negotiations on anything.

Durbin is lyING in his response to the blowup over his original lie. He acts as if it is reasonable to expect that Trump recorded the conversation and challenging Trump to release it. This is disengenous as hell since it is traditional that such meetings are PRIVATE and informal for the purpose of straight talk and meaning. How the people who come across the Durbins in Washington don’t deck them I’ll never know.

President Trump could announce that he will resume negotiations ONLY after Turbin visits the White House and admits, on camera, that he willfully lied and now wishes to apologize to the President and the nation.

DACA takes a walk-a.

That presumes that he really wants to fix the problems. He’d probably prefer having a campaign issue to fixing the problem.

Add a Democrat “D” to “reamers” and you get “Dreamers”.

I think the Democrats are mistaken about riding to power on a “hate whitey” platform.

The opposite of what they desire is the most probable outcome.

Dick Dirtbag Turban has been one of the worst most radical members of congress for years. As with most leftists there is nothing too slimey that he wouldnt do it if he thinks it will help him.

Or President Trump could persuade the House to quickly pass his “minimum” DACA FIX BILL which will also end chain migration, end the immigrant “lottery” and fully fund the border wall.

Yes, we all know the Dems will threaten to filibuster that bill in the Senate.

But, THIS time, I hope the GOP-led Senate will require a REAL filibuster from the Dems. This will put the Dems in the awkward position of “holding up” implementation of the DACA FIX on TV.

So, IMHO, Senator McConnell should schedule a “vote to close debate” every day that the Dems’ filibuster proceeds. Republican Senators should start with about 50 votes of the 60 needed.

Then, to increase the “drama” here, have Senator McConnell call for all Republicans to vote on cloture BEFORE the Democrat Senators are called to vote. IMHO, if Dems are going to vote as a “bloc”, they should be called to vote as a highly visible “bloc”.

I wonder how long Senator Durbin will be able to vote to deport DACA immigrants?

We’ll see....

Leaving aside for a moment exactly how Trump phrased his description of foreign countries, it’s pretty clear that he was against the proposal as not going far enough on immigration. So what was left for Durbin to blow up?

Listening to Rush’s show today,on the news break Durbin stated he was standing by his interpretation of what Trump said.
Well that means someone else could have a different interpretation doesn’t it?
