A long-simmering factor in Iran protests: climate change

In the mountains of western Iran, the province of Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari is known for mile-high lagoons, flowing rivers and wetlands that attract thousands of species of migratory birds.

But years of diminishing rainfall have shriveled water sources. Conditions worsened, residents say, after Iranian authorities began funneling water 60 miles away to the lowland city of Esfahan, sparking protests as far back as 2014.

The uprising — in which at least 21 people died and thousands were arrested before authorities reimposed order — had many sparks: rising prices, persistent unemployment, bank collapses, a wide wealth gap, corruption in the theocracy.

But an overlooked factor, analysts say, is the impact of climate change and the widespread perception that Iran’s leaders are mishandling a growing problem of water scarcity.

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called on the government to “manage climate change and environmental threats,” but the response from successive governments has been mixed.

So not only is the LAT playing up BS "climate change" as a reason for the protests, they also are playing up Ayatollah Khamenei as the good guy in this story. We live in bizarre times.

For consideration:

1. Define the “correct” temperature range for the planet.

2. Define the “correct” humidity range for the planet.

3. Define the “correct” mean sea level for the planet.

4. Define the “correct” amount of precipitation for the planet.

5. Define the “correct” makeup of the atmosphere.

6. Define the “correct” amount of sea ice at the N/S poles.

7. Define/explain past glaciation and subsequent warming without any input from humans.

Just a thought.

I remember when I was a kid a freind had a pit bull. He had a rope that the dog would bite one end, and he would then spin around fast enough to lift the dog off the ground. Once he had his jaws in the rope, he would not let go no matter what, even if a squirrel ran by.

With global hoaxing, these people are like that dog. And it seems these stories are coming out at machine gun velocity lately as it would seem somebody is threatening their bottomless money spigot.

Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called on the government to “manage climate change and environmental threats,”...

I guess if the Ayatollah endorses climate change as being a real problem, then it MUST be a real problem?

What more do we need? An endorsement by Hamas?
