I drain my bird bath every winter, I might give the warm water a try. I also have a lot of cardinals and sparrows.

I have a decent size pond on my property... it attracts geese, ducks, deer and a whole bunch of other critters.

We get ducks and geese flying in here as well (North Texas, just south of OKLA state line) Deer, bobcat, coyote, even a blue heron now and then. Love the birds and country living :) Those male cardinals are so bright and pretty. And contrary to what was known of them, they are not shy, not at all.
