Frustrated State Department employees hire attorneys, charging 'political retribution'
CNN Fake News ^

A growing number of State Department employees are charging they are being put in career purgatory because of their previous work on policy priorities associated with President Barack Obama and in offices the Trump administration is interested in closing.

The situation has got so serious that several officials tell CNN they have retained attorneys after repeatedly trying unsuccessfully to raise concerns about being assigned to low-level jobs in Foggy Bottom such as answering Freedom of Information Act requests.

The issue has also come to the attention of senior Democrats on Capitol Hill.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has made clearing a backlog of FOIA requests a priority and reassigned staff to what State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert has called "an all-hands on deck" effort to clear the backlog. Significant progress has been made, and the number of outstanding requests -- which stood at 22,000 in January 2017 -- has been reduced to about 13,000, Tillerson said in November, adding that he hopes the backlog will be cleared by the end of 2018.

I highly doubt any of these conceited fool lefties at State got their salaries cut. State Dept is stuffed to the gills with AA hires, gays and lesbians. For some weird reason gays and lesbians love working at State and being stationed abroad if their “job” entails this. IIRC State was the first or one of the first Federal agencies to celebrate rainbow pride days, gay pride days and to have in house gay pride celebrations commemorations during the normal work week.

You get it. These worthies at the State Department have suffered blows to their swollen egos now that Trump/Rex Tillerson have declared them useless and do their best to work around them.

The source of the "problem" is mentioned in the article:

But many of those assigned to the "FOIA Surge" effort resemble a band of misfit toys, including several ambassadors returning from overseas and senior career and civil service members who were detailed to other agencies. Others worked in offices created by Obama as policy priorities, which the Trump administration has announced it intends to close.

Under Obama and Hillary, there were many offices set up having to do with women's issues, climate change, etc. And when Trump pulled out of TPP and the Paris Climate Accord, many State Department employees were affected. Not only were their jobs lost causing them to be reassigned, but they also suffered the recognition that their many years of work on these issues went down the drain. If Trump follows thru and kills the Iran deal, then a suicide watch will be put out for the State Department.

Elections have consequences.

But I’m thinking they CAN have their salaries cut.....to fit their new job. If we cannot get rid of them, maybe the humiliation would be enough to make them quit. Or maybe, if their salaries are cut enough, they will leave for another job that pays better.

Win-Win.....farms get free help and swamp creatures get to see what honest hard work is like.

Actually the do get a huuuuge cut in pay. First you reassign them to tolietry duty then you eliminate the yearly lavish secret performance bonuses.

I suspect that is what most of them are really upset about. The secret bonuses these rats were receiving. IIRC they were in the 20-50k sums.

there is absolutely no reason for State to have more than about 1,500 employees.

Where was your courage then?

You whine that you're being put out to pasture... you chose your fate when you threw in with the communists.

We should indeed fire anyone who does not do the required work. In addition, IF CNN was a truly professional news outlet, it would consider firing the “journalist” who wrote this piece. Why? ...I submit this evidence of horrible writing

“The situation has got (sic) so serious....”

The clear lack of critical thinking alone should be sufficient basis.

The State Dept. has always been the most fetid part of the DC Swam....chock full of left-wing bureaucratic management and employees who hate the U.S., capitalism, borders, nationalistic pride, Israel, conservatives, Trump....the list goes on.

I know....my late cousin was career state....and I could write a book.

These ingrate state department LIB losers should be happy they have a job. They are malignancies who do nothing of value. Quite the opposite...they contribute to lowering our status among nations. These p[arasites should be sued for collecting a paycheck.

“Elections have consequences” or so we were told by a recent President. But, of course, those consequences were fine when he said it, weren’t they?

I agree with firing them. I also don’t understand what they are whining about. They still get paid their high level job wage while they are doing low level work. They should be given the closet treatment. Give them an empty desk in the basement, an uncomfortable chair, no phone, no wi-if, no computer, no cell, and just let them sit there. A month or so of that and they will leave on their own.

I agree with firing them.

It doesn't work that way. If they have career tenure they can't be fired without cause. There would have to be a RIF, which is just a reshuffling of the government deck chairs.
