We had a little town in St. Louis County called St. George, and thankfully they were made to fold before any of this camera nonsense - they would have loved that.
It was the size of a neighborhood, with a major street going through it. If you went one over, you got a ticket. If you went slow, you got a ticket. A friend’s dad went two over and had his physical license taken away, and he had to go to court and pay the fine to get it back.
I went out of my way to avoid that place.
Well that’s just it - they would.
And if you were the one who had to cut checks to the underwriters, you’d raise the rates on those folks too. Or maybe what really happens, is good drivers get a discount. Depends how you look at it.
But if points were assessed - people would pay more attention to what the legislature is doing. It’s all just a little too cozy and convenient for my tastes.
In principle, I really don’t have a problem with the concept. But only if the revenue stays in the state or local jurisdiction, and only used for property tax relief or something that can’t be pissed away or stolen. No payola to the out of state grifters who then turn yellow lights into a distant memory.
The same people who never drive safe and never pay aren’t going to change. If it’s really about safety, then get ‘em off the road.
Well that’s right.
Whom do they think is going to pay for the “refund”? The taxpayers. The city will probably have to float a bond in order to refund the money, and will get it from the same people ostensibly owed a refund. Sorta.
