Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) cast the lone vote against bringing a House bill to the Senate floor to being the debate on immigration reform. Senators voted 97-1 in favor of moving the bill forward for discussion. Senator Cruz took the stand based on a long-held belief that there should not be a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. Cruz’ spokesperson, Catherine Frazier told The Hill that the senator “believes it would be a serious mistake for Congress to pass legislation that grants a path to citizenship for those here illegally.”

“Such a policy is inconsistent with the promises that he and Republicans have made to the voters, and is in fact further to the left of President Obama’s position,” Frazier explained.

Despite Cruz’ vote on principle, the House bill which will be used as a vehicle for Senate debate will move forward. Debate is expected to begin on Tuesday.

TX Democrats are convinced that they can unseat TCruz on November 6.

They’ve been wrong before...... Time will tell.

Churchill would have had to renouce his British citizenship which of course he would not have done.

As long as the Dems are the pro-choice, abortion party, they will be lacking votes. Their real target year in Texas is 2024, perhaps, 2020.

Good grief. The intentional ignorance, it burns.

There is nothing Cruz could do that would prevent you from mindlessly attacking him.

As usual, the conversation devolves into discussion of Cruz and his citizenship status.

Anyway, I repeat myself, it is fine to say “no citizenship” for illegals but in the mean time, chain migration sends over 1,000,000 new immigrants a year who can have a path to citizenship, this was on Tucker last night. So, we are talking about a real trade-off.

It doesn’t do much good to say “we won’t discuss immigration” while legal immigrants continue to come in, 1,000,000 a year with chain migration that can see, almost unlimited people come in from one immigrant.

“Senator Cruz ... ‘believes it would be a serious mistake for Congress to pass legislation that grants a path to citizenship for those here illegally. Such a policy is inconsistent with the promises that he and Republicans have made to the voters, and is in fact further to the left of President Obama’s position’.”

I agree 1,000%. Thank you, Sen. Cruz.

Thank you Senator Cruz for chain migration to continue at 1,000,000 a year (sarcasm off)

Cruz is just doing this to please his constituency, which he should do but the reality of the situation is that chain migration with people with a path of citizenship will continue at 1 million a year.

Immigration Bill Debate, Lurkinanloomin wrote:

The letter from John Jay to George Washington insisting on a natural born citizen still exists.
They wanted to exclude any foreign influence on the office by excluding those born with divided loyalties, allegiances, nationalities and citizenships.Children of foreign nationals are exactly who they were excluding.
Which of the founders would have thought someone born a British subject was a natural born citizen?
Most of them were and grandfathered themselves with the part about “ a citizen at the time”, knowing there could not be a natural born citizen of the new United States for 35 years.

This was directed at Alexander Hamilton who was born in the Brit province of Bermuda.

Only if the illegals are allowed to vote.

Numerous TX counties had a rush of voter registrations submitted just DAYS before the last Presidential election.

The mentally ill will ignore the facts and just spout random Cruz-hate.

They can't help it. They're not well at all; they're slaves to their obsessions and compulsions.

Actually, it was not Bermuda.

But not to worry, because you're "close enough for government work."

(And besides, what difference, at this point, does it make?)

Well at least none of the usual suspects -- learned though they all may be -- has yet cited the Magnum Opus of Emmerich de Vattel on this thread.

Maybe that's a sign of progress?

I Tweeted the second and third sentences to Pres. Trump, with the addendum “Cruz is right.”

Just another rock tossed in the pond. I dunno if anyone reads those things.
