'Forgive us, because we sold them,' says African ambassador on possible slave ship find

"I am just begging them to forgive us, because we sold them. Our forefathers sold their brothers and sisters. I am not the person to talk to them. No! May their souls rest in peace, perfect peace. They should forgive us. They should," Posset said, wiping tears from his cheeks. "Qualified people will come and talk to them in due time. I feel so sad."

Does that include DACA kids?

What is your REAL question, or are you too timid to ask it?

“Alonso many of the Jacobite (Scottish) rebels rank & file were sold into slavery by the highland clearances.”

My family, a member of Old Clan Chatten, was one that was rounded up.
Some were sent to Ireland but most ended up in Carolina and Virginia.
The accent of central Virginia used to have a distinct Scottish flavor.
Not so much these days.

Note Alonso = Also.... I wish WIN10 would not make these decisions for me!

Many of the Scottish rebels ended up in Barbados.
The old Errol Flynn movie - Captain Blood (Its from a 1922 novel but it did have a grain of historical truth) is about Barbadosizing the rebels!

“Men like Elijah Lovejoy and Charles Torrey.”

I figured it was something like that. Mr. Lovejoy was killed the hard way; mob of hateful northerners.

“A bit weak on 19th Century American history, are you?”

I'm learning about history.

Just the other day I learned the names of the slave states that enshrined slavery into the US constitution: New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Delaware, and Maryland.

Seems like there were others. Oh yes, Virginia, North and South Carolina, and Georgia.

Good. Next you can learn about Black slave owners in the South.

I apologize if I read something into that which wasn’t there. I see your point.

Well there isn’t a simple yes or no answer to that.

Yes it does include DACA kids, however, they are still here illegally.

“... I’m learning about history. ...”
-
Rhode Island Voted “No”.
North Carolina voted neither way.
The other 11 States were all that were needed.

“Rhode Island Voted “No”. North Carolina voted neither way.The other 11 States were all that were needed.”

I thought all 13 states voted to ratify the U.S. constitution.

Are you saying R.I. and North Carolina never voted to ratify the constitution?

Initially, they did not.
One voted no, the other voted to abstain.
Later on, after all the fuss was over, they symbolically did.

“Initially, they did not. One voted no, the other voted to abstain. Later on, after all the fuss was over, they symbolically did.”

Establishing the constitution required the ratification of nine states, not eleven (according to my reading of the constitution.)

The interesting thing to me as a school boy is that 13 of the 13 states voted to ratify the U.S. constitution which enshrined slavery.

There are those that contend that slavery was a “southern problem.”

“Wasn't that 18th century history?”

The author of post 27 specified the 19th century, probably because it suited his/her purposes to limit the scope. I take a long view of history. Sometimes my view of history is informed by the events in the Garden of Eden. And I certainly take into view the activities of Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Mason et al when discussing American history.

“Note Alonso = Also.... I wish WIN10 would not make these decisions for me!”

My android phone does the same. I have to preview every post and still miss some.

“Many of the Scottish rebels ended up in Barbados.
The old Errol Flynn movie - Captain Blood (Its from a 1922 novel but it did have a grain of historical truth) is about Barbadosizing the rebels!”

I didn’t know some Scotts were sent to Barbados!

Doing some poking online I discovered that one ship loaded with Scottish rebels headed for the Lea Ward islands was captured by the French and the Scotts freed.

I also came across a partial listing of English ships that transported Scottish rebels to the colonies!
I may be able to pinpoint the ship that transported my ancestors.
What a find for my on again/off again research!

Thanks for giving me another trail to sniff down!
