Here’s what students should know about gun control
Las Vegas Review Journal ^ | Mar 13, 2018 | Victor Joecks

If students playing hooky solved gun violence, mass shootings would have ended decades ago — kids, just ask your parents if they ever cut class. That’s not going to stop today’s students from trying again.

At 10 a.m. today, students from a dozen Las Vegas schools will walk out of their classes for 17 minutes as part of the National School Walkout. It’s an event organized by the Women’s March. Similar protests will occur at thousands of schools throughout the country. The 17-minute protest is in memory of the 17 individuals killed in the Florida school shooting that occurred one month ago.

What is the purpose? Demands include Congress passing “legislation to keep us safe from gun violence at our schools, on our streets and in our homes and places of worship.” That’s an ironic thing to call for after the Florida shooting. The FBI ignored tips about the shooter, and the local sheriff’s office received at least 20 calls about him, including tips it could and should have acted on. Just passing a new law, especially with so many breakdowns in enforcing current ones, won’t stop someone determined to commit a crime.

That inconsistency isn’t addressed. But to its credit, the Women’s March lists several specific pieces of legislation it wants passed.

One proposal is to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. “It’s all in the title — assault weapons don’t protect, they harm and too easily these deadly weapons can be bought, sold and distributed within the borders of our nation,” says the National School Walkout website. “How can we enjoy ‘freedom,’ if our own country condones the selling of deadly, military-grade weapons which threaten our very existence? The right to bear arms should not be the right to kill.”

“It’s all in the title — CARS don’t protect, they harm and too easily these deadly weapons can be bought, sold and distributed within the borders of our nation,”

I guess we fix the problem by banning sober people from owning cars - take cars away from law abiding people

March for the soldiers who fought for the right to bear arms. They have it half a** backwards.

What students need to know about gun control:

-Treat every weapon as if it were loaded
-Never point your weapon at anything you do not intend to destroy
-Keep your weapon on safe until you are ready to fire
-Keep your finger off of the trigger until you are prepared to fire
-Be aware of what lies beyond your target
-Use both hands for optimum stability
-Never trust a Democrat when it comes to firearms

But nobody on the other side listens. It would hurt too much.

“If you want society to take you seriously, try making serious arguments.”

Depends on the society.

The Democrats sent in armored combat vehicles against American citizens at Waco to make a political point and they burned up children.

No gun control.

Never.

Proud to be a Lifetime member of the NRA. They are the oldest and as far as I am concerned the only real Civil Rights organization in the world.

The ideas posted in this article are all fine and dandy. The kids do not want guns in the public access because they claim they are not controlled enough.

I agree. The sale of weapons and the follow on registration of the same, if done as the law has prescribed, will work as far as the law is concerned as it is designed based upon the legal sale of weapons. So guns sold on the street, which are illegal sales in most cases, cannot be stopped any way you try. They tried that in England and ultimately got a bunch of people killed with guns.

But there is one more link in the puzzle on the Cruz shooting as if the laws as they were originally written had been followed, Cruz would not have qualified to buy the weapons. He had a number of violent actions that never made his records with anyone, to include the police, the FBI, or the ATF due to an Obama designed program to keep the incidents out of the public records that he made a deal with in that county with that school system. So Cruz legally would not have been able to purchase a gun if the incidents were on record. Now that doesn’t stop the illegal sales of guns. But that may be something worth protesting about.

https://www.usnews.com/news/education-news/articles/2018-03-06/did-an-obama-era-school-discipline-policy-contribute-to-the-parkland-shooting

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2018/03/05/ingraham_promise_program_hailed_by_obama_admin_led_to_florida_schools_ignoring_violent_students.html

So if the kids want to protest that not enough is being done to enforce the laws currently on record, I’ll go with them. But a blanket policy to get rid of guns caused by another more than questionable program by Obama, (like DACA), to keep violent incidents off records for under aged kids, and a little older, that would have jacked a red flag for the purchase, is not the answer. It is a damned poor choice.

Saw a great bumper sticker yesterday - “We have enough gun control. What we need is idiot control.”

Organizers continue, “In 2017, there were only 14 days when police didn’t kill someone

Ok, so how many days were there that police weren't fired upon?

I have no interest in what the most emotional, most immature, most arrogant and least experienced people among us have to say about anything.

None. Why do you ask? What's that got to do with anything? You must be a racist!....
