NEW YORK/CHICAGO (Reuters) - Walmart Inc’s patent filings hint that it may see a future where farmers use its drones to not only spot crop problems but selectively apply chemicals or even disperse pollen to bring shoppers the freshest and cheapest food possible.

The world’s largest retailer applied for six patents last year on drones that aim to prevent damage to crops, control pest attacks on farms and cross-pollinate plants, according to U.S. Patents and Trademark Office documents that were made public last week and seen by Reuters. {snip}

.....The market for agricultural drones will top $1 billion by 2024, up from about $338 million in 2016, according to research firm Global Market Insights. However, Walmart’s patent applications stand out because they indicate the company sees greater potential to address problems on farms, rather than simply spot them...

Hmm, can it prevent getting rotten spinach and moldy blueberries from Sam’s? Maybe they need a drone inside the produce section.

Walmart has the best customer service out there. They intend to defend their position with continual improvement. The elites, of course, hate them.

If these drones will be improving growing conditions for farms in Mexico and South America, it won’t do me any good because I avoid buying food grown outside the country.

More than a hint at where agriculture is going. Think automation and ingenuity that will break the current ‘dependence’ on the migrant issue and radically ramp up productivity.

“More than a hint at where agriculture is going. Farmer lays out the grid on his laptop, sets other parameters, etc, then starts tractor. Then drives to local Cafe to have coffee, with his buds 🤗

Walmart is moving in the direction of vertical integration into farming.

They are now opening their own milk processing plant.

Go[hers and moles as well. When you find a source, please call me “collect”. My annual battle will begin again in a few weeks, continually deep into the fall. I’m ready for the battle and any new “weapons” would certainly be welcomed.

They should call these drones "slaves." Wouldn't the reaction to that be fun?

You miss the point.

A patent is reality, not fiction

These were patent applications made by walmart. The where not issued yet. May never be.
You can apply for a patent for almost anything. If the idea has been been described before it is not big deal. It the solution has been described before you may have a bit of a problem proving your solution is unique.
Patents are not issued for ideas, but for solutions.

Saw an interesting approach to G and M "whacking".

A guy took a small Briggs and Stratton motor, mounted it to a circular steel plate, and ran the exhaust to a hole in the plate. To use, place exhaust hole over gopher/mole hole entrance and start motor. Portable gas chamber.

I thought the approach quite "thinking outside the box". Not practical to own, but to rent.......???

“The Rodenator Pro”. ............

I could use a couple of those BUT, then I would have to hire a landscaper to repair all the destruction caused by the explosions..............Got any other ideas?
May a way to “Gas” those little bastards?..
