The article might have done well to note that Australia, when they “banned guns”, only banned a class of guns. And, while Australians “turned in” 1 million guns, that only 20% of the banned weapons were turned in, meaning that 4 million of those rifles are still owned, by people who now are technically criminals.
IN other words, if VOX was being even more honest, they’d tell their readers the FACT that even in Australia, without a 2nd amendment or the American gun culture or the NRA, a vast majority of the gun owners refused to turn in their weapons, and the government decided NOT to go after them.
So no, banning the possession of AR-15s is NOT going to do anything — even if we acheived exactly what Australia acheived, it would only remove a small percentage of the rifles from the public, and probably mostly ones that were languishing in people’s attics and closets.

I would oppose it on principle, but if we applied the left’s “reasoning,” then confiscating all guns owned by blacks would lower the murder rate by about 50%.

The Bill of Rights was required by ratified states to be included in the constitution and REQUIRED to be part in order for the United States of America to exist. I Saw Southern statues and the Confederate flag taken down and I never thought I would see that. At least not without a fight. I hope the gun issue will be different. I actually really hope it never comes to that.

The subtext of the article contains one remarkable admission: it isn't law because the voters don't want it. And so the challenge will be to impose the will of those bureaucrats and activists on an unwilling population anyway. They may insist that what they're after is a reduced level of violence but in fact, they intend to raise that level first and keep it there as long as necessary. That's likely to be a very long time.
