It would no longer be an apple. They aren't worried about the mass. They're worried about it carrying a fungus or parasite. Those that are on apples are killed by the digestive process.

And you're presuming people eat the core, too?

The law isn’t the problem.

It makes sense considering the damage invasive species have caused.

The reaction of the government employee in fining her instead of letting her throw it out is what the problem is.

I can still see the woman’s point of view, though. She probably did not think the apple was included in the declaration, since she got it onboard an airplane.

Look at you. On this thread making sense......

Yes, we want a nation of laws and not a nation where officials decide on their own what is an isn’t the law.

On the other hand, sanity and reason should be able to judge the context of a situation and determine how far the law should go. At a minimum, the customs folks should have said “Yes, eat it here or toss it away”. At best they could have said “On your way, no problem”.

Bull! She put an apple given to her by the airline in her carryall. May even have forgotten about it. Some of you nitpickers would do well under the nazis.

They should have just taken the damn apple away from her.

Meanwhile, people with TB and other communicable diseases come across our border every day and are welcomed with Teddy Bears.

People unintentionally bring outlawed products into the country all the time. Most agents will simply take it away and destroy the product. But that’s never good enough for the terminally uptight.

I try to imagine the mind that would enjoy watching Canadian Border Watch...

The regulations are quite clear:

“All travelers entering the United States are REQUIRED to DECLARE meats, fruits, vegetables, plants, seeds, soil, animals, as well as plant and animal products (including soup or soup products) they may be carrying. The declaration must cover all items carried in checked baggage, carry-on luggage, or in a vehicle.”

“Its a delta bird and are the planes not supplied by us company?”

Not when departing CDG.

“May even have forgotten about it.”

I don’t think we want to set a legal precedence where “I forgot about the contraband in my possession,” is a valid excuse for people entering the country.

We all know the rules, newbie. You don’t have to quote them to me. You need to relax.

Nope. I’m assuming it is thrown in the trash which is incinerated.

Are you assuming the other passengers keep the core and put it in their luggage?

If you and I have to follow the rules and declare agricultural items, why should this woman in Denver not have to follow those rules?

It’s called a mistake, newbie. Unless you think she had a grand plot - a la Johnny Appleseed - to destroy the Gala with Cox Orange Pippin.
