Earth's Shifting Crust Linked to Climate Change, Scientists Propose
EcoWatch ^ | May 23, 2018 | By Tim Radford

Movements of the earth's crust may mean that global warming driven by greenhouse gases from power stations and vehicle exhausts isn't the only threat to life the world faces.

About 700 million years ago, global temperatures fell so low that glaciers may have reached the equator. Snowball Earth may have all but extinguished life on the planet. But the only life at the time was microbial and dispersed in the oceans.

The planet survived: volcanic eruptions may have darkened the ice and pumped more carbon dioxide and steam into the atmosphere, and the world warmed again.

But, say two Texan scientists, the frozen plane in what geologists call the Neoproterozoic era may have been precipitated at the start by the first dramatic movements in the earth's crust or lithosphere, known as plate tectonics. That is, shifts in climate and shifts in the earth's crust could be linked.

Research like this is tentative: the authors offer a hypothesis to be challenged, rather than a theory to be confirmed. But research like this is fundamental: to understand the subtleties of the present climate, now inexorably being altered by human action, it is necessary to understand change in the past as well, and to establish the principles that control the planet's overall climate history.

Well, not propaganda but rather thoughtful analysis of geologic observations.

To declare volcanism to be a contribution to climatic cooling is not propaganda. After the cooling dissipates, warming caan occur.

Actually, i have long said that this was the case- based on the title listed on FR, not on the article.

I read somewhere that axis of the earth shifted a quarter or a half a degree from the Fukashima earth quake. Recall that the earthquake was an 8.9 - 9.+. Big massive shifts of mass will cause changes in the way things move on a global scale.

So if .25 or .5 of a degree of surface area is now subject to the effects of global warming (the real thing that happens at the terminus all the time, not the made up shi+ that the media propagandizes) at times of the year that they normally do not get sun, do you think this will affect weather patterns?

Keep in mind that weather is driven primarily by the sun, and secondarily by the rotation of the earth causing heating and cooling of the air masses that the sun reaches and cannot reach. Air expands and contracts when it is heated or cooled. This causes wind. Wind causes evaporation of water and weather events like rain, thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. The same can be said of water currents.

AND long term effects of weather in different regions is essentially what climate is. Obviously impacted by the surface of the earth, too - mountains and valleys cause variations in the weather.

So now take the added surface area that is getting heated and cooled at periods (days of the year) that they are not what had been normal for the last several millennia, and you are going to have some altered climate... caused initially by a massive earth quake.

Wonder why scientists don’t talk about this.... hmmm.

Oldeconomybuyer, I have to admit, the first time I saw you post all these glo-bull warming/changing/polar vortexing stories, I was annoyed wondering why you would keep posting such garbage. It took me until the next day to see your ‘photo’ and I laughed. I’m a little slow, but I get there eventually. Good job.

Assuming the models of "greenhouse gases" causing "global warming" have any validity, a fairly good sized volcanic eruption will dump far more "greenhouse gas" into the atmosphere than mankind will. But on the other hand, volcanoes also have the effect of replenishing the atmosphere. No molten core, no volcanoes, no atmosphere, no life.

"In the present day, climate is in the news because we're changing it by putting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere," said Stern. "But imagine a time when Earth didn't have plate tectonics, and it then evolved to have plate tectonics—that would have been a major shift in the Earth's operating system, and it would have had a huge effect on climate, too."

whoa...how did this get in there ? Kinda makes the first part of his statement useless.
So which came first ? climate change caused plate tectonics ? or plate tectonics caused climate change ?

Has anyone kept track of how many versions there are of what happened in the past 700 million years? They always state it in a way that sounds as if they know exactly what happened and when. And then the next version is different, and so on. The only constant is their enormous egos.

Innumeracy: Mathematical Illiteracy and Its Consequences

by John Allen Paulos, ISBN 978-0-670-83008-4

The people who come up with these bizarre climate theories have no idea of the magnitude and mass of the quanitities involved. They just keep throwing sh*t against the wall hoping something will stick. If underground nuclear explosions have no affect on the earth's crust, how are a few extra grams of a non-toxic naturally occuring gas supposed to affect it?

OMG, this is kindergarten "science." I happen to know a lot about plate tectonics, historical geology and what takes place on this dynamic Earth over deep time. These moronic propagandists are trying to link events that happen over billions of years to internal combustion engines and human industrial activity.

Here's something to put it all into perspective:

"Consider the Earth’s history as the old measure of the English yard, the distance from the King’s nose to the tip of his outstretched hand. One stroke of a nail file on his middle finger erases human history." John McPhee - "Basin and Range"

This is another good example of:

LEFTIST CATASTROPLASM

No, it’s not a real word, but then these aren’t real catastrophes set to rain down calamity upon us either.

It’s a combination of the Leftist proclivity to assess things in the light of an catastrophic (Leftist) orgasm, to move public opinion.

Fake news.

They have been successful in one sense, the public is seeing more clearly their shenanigans by the hour.
