The problem isn’t going to fix itself until we overhaul the welfare system.

My son and DIL are on vacation in a small, harbor-side New England Village and hanging out meeting locals. At one bar they overheard the manager talking about having to go to the airport to pick up Eastern European workers for the summer season.

The manager explained they cannot get anyone local to work for the season as waiters/waitresses, cooks or kitchen help so they contract with an overseas employment agency to bring in short term documented workers to fill the void.

I saw this when I was still driving long haul.
Waitresses from former Iron Curtain countries working in truck stops here and there.
Met a lovely pair of sisters from Romania. Their English was a bit spotty but they hustled.
One told me she and her sister would make enough to support their five member family for two years.
